Just tell us (short), if you have a M8, if it is a "second generation" or a "bug fixed" M8 and if you had a problem, or if you never had a problem.

Lets start with my M8

Recieved:

Jan. 2008 (second generation)

Problems:

Margenta (seen one or to times)

have mine since 17th february, ser.no. 3106xx, now around 300 exposures.

the magenta cast ist there and i had once a camera lockup, i had the camera in the bag and forgot to turn it off. after arriving home (maybe 30 minutes later) i took it out of the bag and it only responded to the buttons on the back. after taking the battery out and replacing it with a freshly charged one it worked like nothing happened.

the battery which was in the camera (while that lock up occured) was still showing half full before this happened. during lockup the battery indicator didnt show anything.

2nd Gen M8 Jan 07 (just missed 31st dec deadline dooh)

arrived with v 1.09 had no problems until v1.092

I had a shutter error, although I think this may have been with v1.091.

I now occasionally get a srambled image on the lcd showing red stripes with a black background after I take a picture. The red light is flashing away and keeps flashing until I move the on/off switch to the timer setting. I then turn it off and all seems well again. The card shows the picture taken with no faults.

Roll on v1.10.. and ir filters...and more dough to buy a 75mm ...:D

Looking forward to Summer !

regards

Jim

Edit Just noticed Olof - when did you receive your camera..? :)

2nd gen. for 1 week

Delighted. No Problems except Magenta (waiting for my free filters). Did have lines on LCD after shut down but these seem to have disappeared with FW 1.092.

Beautiful focus with 50mm 'Lux

Gen 1 from Nov 20, 2006. Upgraded to 1.09, not yet had factory upgrade.

All gen 1 problems - banding, magenta cast...

Some battery charging issue but appeared fixed by draining and re-charging.

Camera died - buttons and LCD stopped functioning, while shutter kept on working and vice versa. Finally totally died.

Sent to Leica for repair and upgrade.

Hi - there's a new thread with a link to an internet based survey that will catch this information more systematically and provide Guy and others with clearer data to pass to Leica. You might like to have a look at this link:

I had a battery experience sudden demise. Went from 3/4 charged to zero and then on recharging would not get past 3/4 full. Leica replaced it by mail from NJ -- very accommodating. I had a no-name 2G SD card repeatedly refuse to format in the camera (hung with the red light flashing) but I don't blame the camera for that.

I've had no other problems. Running 1.092. Occasionally see some magenta but I don't count that for purposes of the question asked.

Hardware fixed M8 from Solms with 1.092.

  • most serious existing problem that I've seen myself is the "green band" from an on-frame overexposed light source. The so-called "dark pixel" flaw
  • had a camera lock with an apparently bad SD card (Sandisk Extreme 3)
  • stupid 1.092 thing: the menu 'flickers' / rolls when you turn on the camera every 100 switches or so.
