davidecossu Posted March 13, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I need to buy a scanner and my budget is around £150-200. Would this money be enough for a proper one? Any particular one you would suggest? Thanks for your help, davide

davidecossu Posted March 13, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted March 13, 2007 negatives mainly.
mwilliamsphotography Posted March 13, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 13, 2007 That's roughly $400. USD. Not much when it comes to scanners for 35mm film negs. Flatbeds can be found in this price range, which can do an okay job if you print small, or just want to post on the internet. Where I you, I'd search out a used dedicated scanner. Minolta has made a few that probably can be had for that price range now.
sandymc Posted March 13, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 13, 2007 If you can get up to the $500 (in the USA) range, Nikon Coolscan V has a very good reputation. Sandy
Mark Antony Posted March 13, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 13, 2007 £150 isn't much for a scanner, have you tried second-hand? I found a boxed used Minolta Dimage III for £99 recently and bought viewscan to complement it. It does a good job on the whole. I would look for a S/H Minolta 5400, if you go this route make sure it's a USB2 device Mark
davidecossu Posted March 14, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted March 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would get up a little bit more max £250 for a good one, I live in london and going to NY in a couple of weeks. Any second hand shop you know in the areas? thanks
sandymc Posted March 14, 2007 Share #8 Posted March 14, 2007 Unfortunately, second hand Coolscans are near impossible to get; Nikon has been manufacturing them only in small batches due to limited demand, so they go completely unavailable for months at a time.... pleeson Posted March 15, 2007 Share #9 Posted March 15, 2007 Nothing really wrong with used Coolscan IV, either, at least for a starter. They go for $350 range on ebay, not likely to be found elsewhere. I also recommend VueScan
davidecossu Posted March 15, 2007 Author Share #10 Posted March 15, 2007 sorry for being a pain but what kind of carateristic should i look for? The biggest print i will do is about 30x 40 cm.
william wooten Posted March 15, 2007 Share #11 Posted March 15, 2007 I second the Scan Dual III or IV if that is your budget. Reala 100 in a Minilux. Crop
