Desire real digital R

I have many Leica film cameras, both M and R. Last year I bought a Canon P&S for quick work to the internet.

I have not bought any Leica digi because of the high cost and crop factors to the sensors. No I don`t want a Leica consumer model with names I can`t remember.

Since the R8/9 are already so big compared to previous R cams, ]why can`t they make a 24x36 sensor in a revamped body the likes of the R 8/9? Frankly I am just not interested in having my 28/35 shift lenses become something longer. Or my 60/100 macros become 90/135. Or all the others getting a narrow view.

So now I thinking Canon 5D. Full sensor and the lenses behave the way they were designed.

Cost is almost immaterial compared to changing systems.

In the meantime I am still doing film.

Me too!!! The big size don't bother me at all, but the crope factor is! It means when I use my 28-90, I almost lose all of my wide capabilities. I'm just waiting for the new back that have full size back for my R9 and maybe 20Mb.

My sister have just bought a Canon EOS 400D. It is a nice 10 meg pix for about 800$ with a 15-55 len. If I buy a DMR for about 5000$, then I will spend 10 times more ( include the body and a 28-90) for something doing the same thing that also don't have any wide angle lense!!

It seems sadly that this will never happen in near future and leica have forgot it loyal R users. This should be clear that if leica don't want to invest on SLR, they should discontinue the series, and free us from waiting for something that will never happen or will happen so late that will lose all of its advantage to others competitors.

agreed,

D is the new R... D is full frame 4/3rds...adapter for r glass, new lenses expected,

D line is receiving investment

M line receiveing investment

compacts receiving investment

m glass receiving investment

D glass receiving investment

R: no news.... kinda easy to read between the lines on this one

FF sensor for R system can be challenging for Leica at that moment. Remember that only Canon is offering such systems now. Others have some big problems, I think.

But Leica can design R system for advanced amateurs by using sensor from M system, at that moment. Sensor from M system has better performance for oblique light rays, so I think it is possible to put it to R system body without need of bulky back. Crop factor will remain but camera body will be the same size like R8/R9 and will UTILIZE perfect viewfinder optical system of R camera.

I think such camera can be very promising on the market and allow to shorten waiting for FF R system.

But it looks that Leica choose D system way, instead.

I think its a blind way, without future because of enormous D system's cost, which should be paid for below market specification camera (POOR viewfinder, bulky vario lens, small number of pixels in sensor).

I have bought D1 and then waited for update with D3 to reach experiences with SLR.

But D3 is so disappointing (see above), so I bought Pentax K10D and I am very glad.

I am still very interested in Leica products, but sometimes I think that bothering about Leica's next moves is stupid. Maybe we should choose products from others vendors and vote by our wallets, not our hearts.

Best regards

Ireneusz Kramarski
