maccaco Posted August 13, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted August 13, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I have a cron 35 and 50 and I'm thinking of a 1.4/1.5 ... At the end I doubt between CV 40/1.4, 50/1.5 and CV ... of 40 I like to compact, ADN the 50 to be ASPH ... can you say? Â Regards
Advertisement Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Hi maccaco, Take a look here CV 40/1.4 or CV 50/1.5?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
brianv Posted August 13, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted August 13, 2012 I bought a used CV 50/1.5, lightly used- and it is quite sharp, nice Bokeh. It is an Aspheric design, means less focus shift than conventional lenses. They are out of production, and nothing like it in this price range. If you find one at a good price, try it- they are in demand, and if you do not like it, pass it on. It is a relatively big lens, uses 52mm filters. Tiffen makes a pro-grade Hot Mirror filter which I use on mine. I bought my Hot Mirror (IR cut) used on Ebay, search "HOT MIRROR".
chris_livsey Posted August 14, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted August 14, 2012 I have the 40mm f1.4, it is very compact on the camera a real walkaround lens. My comfort zone is 35mm on FF so i use it on an M2 where a step back is 35mm and a step fwd is 50mm very versatile and the speed is there if needed. It is awkward on the M8 but you do get feedback on framing It doesn't trouble me that the FOV does not fit ay frame lines but it may bother you. Not sure why you want a 40mm or another 50mm if you have these with a 35 and 50 in the bag I would be looking longer or shorter o extend my range, my preference would be shorter. The 28mm is my 90% use lens on the M8 but we are all different.
bill Posted August 14, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted August 14, 2012 I have had both lenses. The 50 is sharp, large, heavy and slow to focus. The 40 is tiny, an excellent "street" lens and a great performer (I had the MC version but there is an SC version as well). On the basis that you use the lens you have, I'd go for the 40 because it is so small and easy to carry along with you. Â Regards, Â Bill
maccaco Posted August 14, 2012 Author Share #5 Â Posted August 14, 2012 Thanks for your feedback. Â I have the opportunity to buy a 50/1.5 at a good price but my usual type of photography is street photography and the 40/1.4 is a temptation by the size and weight discretion. I read this last one also has very pretty colors and classic (I'm not shutter B & W) but has a somewhat unusual bokeh ... Someone may constrastar this? Â Regards. Prosophos Posted August 14, 2012 Share #6  Posted August 14, 2012 I haven't had the pleasure of using the CV 50/1.5, but I've used the Nokton 40/1.4 extensively and I highly recommend it.  See here:  The Voigtländer Nokton 40mm f/1.4.  Peter. MPerson Posted August 14, 2012 Share #7  Posted August 14, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Over the last 4-5 years I have shot only with a 40mm lens. I have the Nokton 40/1.4 and the Summicron-C 40/2. My Nokton is the SC (Single Coated) version as I only use B&W film. It is a great lens, small, light and has a smooth focus. I use the Voigtländer 40mm viewfinder attachment.   Welcome, dear visitor! maccaco Posted August 14, 2012 Author Share #8 Â Posted August 14, 2012 Thanks Prosophos... I read your article, and I'm becoming the 40/1.4 (I hope that in a well functioning M8). I used a Canon 50/1.4 and found it extraordinary ... Is it comparable or better the 40/1.4? Â Regards!
maccaco Posted August 14, 2012 Author Share #9 Â Posted August 14, 2012 Well, I bought the 40/1.4. Reasonable price. Now I hope that I like. Thank you all for the contributions! Regards

maccaco Posted August 17, 2012 Author Share #14 Â Posted August 17, 2012 Hi all. Now I have the Nokton 40! ... Tell them of the few tests I've done, I'm more than satisfied. I have two Summicron, 35 and 50 both pre-asph (which I love both), and Nokton 40 competes with them as equals. Thank you very much to all for your advice (especially to Peter for his article on the blog). Â I'll upload photos when you finish testing (ie my 8GB card). Â By the way, I'll buy a UV/IR. Do you see any effect on the lens with the filter screwed? My tests were not filtered and are great! Â Best regards! David
maccaco Posted August 18, 2012 Author Share #15 Â Posted August 18, 2012 Not sure why you want a 40mm or another 50mm if you have these with a 35 and 50 in the bag... Â To be honest, I sold a canon 50/1.4 (great lens for me!) but it was big for me and I like the wide open apertures (less than 2) and yet light lenses, so I think I'm missing 1.4 lens in my bag and I think the Nokton 40 fits very well to my wishlist. Â I have also Snapshot 25 (another small wonderful lens), and Elmar-C 90/4 (I like too! ) So I think the 25-90 range I have it well covered. I go out on the street now with Nokton and Snapshot (alternating with Summicron 50). Â Regards, David.
Deeman Posted August 18, 2012 Share #16 Â Posted August 18, 2012 Hi Maccaco, Â I use my Nokton f1.4/40mm SC as standard on my M9 and am delighted with the results. The image from the 40mm lens fits the 35mm frame-lines of the M9 better than the 35mm lens throughout most of the range. It is easy to modify the lens yourself: full instructions can be found here summilux.net :: Voir le sujet - Modification Nokton 40mm 1,4 I am the world's worst DIY person, but I found I found I could do the job easily with a needle-file. Best wishes, Ivan

The 40 1.4 has to be the fastest&smallest combination, unless I've missed something. Thanks for the explanation.

Ivan  Hello Ivan, Thank you for your opinion and advice.  I'm not very obsessive with frames, I feel comfortable with the 50 frame using the Nokton 40 ... In fact, I'm nearsighted and I wear glasses, so it is always difficult to see under 35mm frames. With 25 (24 frame in the M8) does not matter as I consider the viewfinder completely.  Regards, David
maccaco Posted August 19, 2012 Author Share #20 Â Posted August 19, 2012 I now I have a question. The Nokton 40 is not codified, then it is best that I set the lens to detect "Off", or I set to "On with UV/IR"?. I use Ligthroom to process my photos and has Leica lenses for correction, so I do not know if is necessary to establish the detection to On. Â Regads!
