graphictree Posted March 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I have died and gone to heaven! And what a very sharp world it is! I now have a beautiful camera with better optics than my eyes! Took some photos of a friend (for a dating site... don't ask) and the pics are great but you can see the fine whiskers on her chin! Think I'll have to add alittle soft focus there then! Boy, I LOVE this camera! Getting over losing my Digilux 2 to pay for it... One question... the rangefinder split in all other Leicas I've looked through is vertical but on mine its slightly off - perhaps about 80 degrees. Is this something I should be worried about? I'm not used to rangefinder focussing so am finding it a bit tricky anyway (I will persevere) but I'm wondering if this M8 (known affectionately as Mavis) will have to go back to the mothership for adjustment? Please say no - I've only had it a few days. TIA gareth

Hans Roggen Posted March 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi Gareth, It's probably off because you're keeping the camea in an angle. Try keeping it horizontal and focus on a vertical line. It should be straight then. Hans

It should be straight then. Hans That sounds like the problem. One way to check is to misfocus so the image splits and then try rotating/tilting the camera until the split components are displaced squarely. The camera should then be horizontal or vertical. What's important is that the split images do coincide when the camera is focused. Bob.
graphictree Posted March 12, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted March 12, 2007 Yep, all is clear now! I clearly need to work on my 'tilt'! Oh well, s'pose I'll just have to stop work and nip out for a bit of Leica practice! Many thanks. Relieved gareth
sean_reid Posted March 12, 2007 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2007 Your starting sentiment is still my basic feeling about the camera. I've made thousands of pictures with it over the past couple of weeks. Cheers, Sean
rvaubel Posted March 12, 2007 Share #6 Posted March 12, 2007 Yes, I've had mine for over a month with 2000+ pics and no problems at all. I wonder how many of us are out there that never post a positive review because the happy camper is not as motivated as those that have a problem.
