rami G Posted March 12, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I upgraded to the new firmware a couple of days ago. After a few days of use, today the camera started getting false WB reading in natural light and to have the familiar blue cast on most of the shots. I never had that with the old firmware.Just to put things in proportions, the WB issue is minor, in the sense that I can alway fix it latter (I never shoot jpeg), but it is pretty anoying. Â Besides, maybe it is different with different bodies, but I found the new pre-click very disturbing. somehow it makes the already not very quiet M8 much more noticable in quiet environment such as a concert. The other day I just put the M8 back in my bag and went back to using my reliable R-D1 simply in order to stop getting the naughty looks of the people around me in the concert. Advertisement Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi rami G, Take a look here new firmware, AWB problems.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rami G Posted March 12, 2007 Author Share #2 Â Posted March 12, 2007 sorry, it wasn't clear from my original post: ALL the WB readings in natural light are now false. Before it used to happen every now and then.
carstenw Posted March 12, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 12, 2007 All? Are you sure it is set to AWB and not to something else? Mine does very well in Tungsten lighting now.
dr.khb Posted March 12, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 12, 2007 AWB is still not reliable! It is enoying, that is why I'm always shooting DNG. About one out of 100 of my shots are completely blue (Forest with sunshine: color temperature 3500, but should be somewhere in the 5600)
Guest hagen Posted March 12, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 12, 2007 AWB is still not reliable! It was a "blue" instead of a "green" forest. I took me 10 seconds in C1 to get a proper result. BTW, the AWB of the 20D also failed under these conditions. ken_tanaka Posted March 12, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 12, 2007 My M8 only seems to know two automatic white balance settings: 5900K +9 tint and 3900K +12 tint. Â I've pored through most of my M8 images and have not found any other default settings. As I shoot entirely in DNG it's easy to adjust. But the M8 does not seem to currently have a very broad mind with respect to white point.
Jamie Roberts Posted March 12, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Auto White Balance is messed up. I think that's pretty well known, but given the other things Leica needs to fix, it's gotta be pretty low on their list. Â Just set the WB to daylight, or tungsten or whatever you're shooting. Voila. Or better yet, shoot white piece of paper under the light you're shooting as a custom WB. Or better yet: shoot a gray card in RAW and click-balance with C1 or ACR later.
