JT07 Posted March 12, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've tried several times today to upgrade my M8 firmware to 1.092 but I can't seem to get it done. Â I've followed the instructions exactly but when I turn on my M8, I get asked if I'd like to upgrade to version 0.00 instead of saving version 1.092 Â If I hit yes and try to upgrade, I immediatley get an error message. Â What am I missing? Â Thanks in advance, JT
Advertisement Posted March 12, 2007 Posted March 12, 2007 Hi JT07, Take a look here Firmware upgrade problems, any advice?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stephengilbert Posted March 12, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 12, 2007 JT, Â You've probably tried this, but the first thing I'd do is to format your SD card and download the firmware again. Maybe there was a glitch in the download. Â Steve
JT07 Posted March 12, 2007 Author Share #3 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Thanks Steve, Â I've tried that already, same results. Â I think I might try a different card reader. Who knows.... Â Thanks, JT
arthury Posted March 12, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 12, 2007 After you drag and drop the *.upd file ( not the ZIP file! ) into the card, can you see it sitting on the top directory while the card is still in the card-reader or computer's card-reader? JT07 Posted March 12, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Art, Â I think you've got it and I can't believe I was this stupid. Â I believe the problem was I was not "unzipping" the file PRIOR to saving it on the card. I was saving the zip file instead. Â Yes, I am a moron........ Â I'm almost certain that must have been the problem. I've got my battery charging now but once it's recharged I'll try it again. Â Thanks for the help, sometimes it just takes another set of eyes, or a brain..... Â Best regards, JT
ho_co Posted March 12, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Thanks for the help, sometimes it just takes another set of eyes, or a brain... JT-- No, no, no brains needed. This is the Leica Forum. Didn't you know all problems are Leica's fault? Â Seriously, with all the problems people are reporting, isn't it great to have one that can be fixed with a double-click of the mouse? wparsonsgisnet Posted March 30, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted March 30, 2007 I've gotten some offlline questions about the upgrade. Â The methodology is as follows (for windoze): Â 1. Download the new version from the Leica site. You should get a zip file. Unzip the contents, and check the filename. It should be called m8-1_092.upd and if it has a second extension, rename the file to get rid of the extra extension. Â 2. Format an SD card in the M8. When that is complete, insert that card into a card reader on your computer. Copy the upd file to the root of the SD card. The "root" is the lowest level in the directory chain. When you look at the directory of the SD card, you should see the upd file and also the DCIM directory -- side by side. Â 3. Make sure your battery has enough juice, and put the SD card in the M8 and turn it on. It will start the upgrade process automatically. Just answer the questions. Photoskeptic Posted March 30, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 30, 2007 Hi Bill, tried to get you last night but no luck. I've done this operation about five times now and still no go. When you say the file will appear next to the DCIM file, does having it show up underneath the DCIM file count? That's what mine does. I transferred the download to a folder. Could that be the problem? I'm also using a 1 gb card, do I need a 2? Hell, I don't what to do. Stupid questions I know, but I'm trying to cover all the bases. Bit bumfuzzled at the moment. Yes I got the message, but the stupid cell phone never rang. I know because I was there all the time. Â On my SD card (as a computer drive) the upd file shows up "under" the DCIM directory. Because it's next to the directory, it's at the same level, the root. Â You want this file right next to the DCIM directory, and not in any directory at all. Â The file should show the name and only the extention ".upd" not any additional extensions. You unzipped it, right? Â I have been using old 256mb cards for this purpose. Your 1Gb card will do just fine. Â I'm going to collect a car. If you want call me after 4 and we can walk thru it. Â Bill
ho_co Posted March 30, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted March 30, 2007 John-- To reword what Bill said: Â Do not put the .upd file in a folder. Â It will simply lie 'loose' at the same level as the DCIM folder on the card. That's the only way the camera can find it.
