gravastar Posted July 26, 2007 Share #21 Posted July 26, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would be suprised if Italian law doesn't require that the dealer replace the camera immediately since it was defective out of the box. It's not as if it operated correctly for a while and then developed a fault. There's always the feeling that electronic equipment that has been disassembled, connections mechanically stressed etc. and reassembled may be less reliable. Of course a real problem could be the dealer doesn't have a replacement in stock. Bob.

marknorton Posted July 26, 2007 Share #22 Posted July 26, 2007 [/ATTACH]I've posted this before, but this is the connector which connects the LEDs to the circuit board. Might be a bad contact, a failed solder connection, a cracked flex print track or a failed LED. Welcome, dear visitor! pekem Posted July 26, 2007 Share #23 Posted July 26, 2007 "Carstenw to the rescue again."!! Thank you for that. I had no idea about that small red marker until I tried the teqhnique described by Tim and refined by Carstenw. I told myself to read the manual but never did get round to doing it, so thank you both.
Philinflash Posted July 26, 2007 Share #24 Posted July 26, 2007 Saturday I finally decided to shop for an M8, after a long story with M6 and M7 (I used to post under the nickname of Snapper in the old leica forum, maybe somebody roughly remembers me). I went to the dealer and told him I was already convinced, that my only request was to be able to actually check if the camera worked before paying. He said this was not possible, that it would not have been new anymore and that he already sold forty. Given the reply, I was ready to walk away, but since I knew the dealer was reputable and I shopped there before without anything to complain, I decided to risk it. bottom line: camera is a dream but there is a problem: the exposure lock little red light in the display will not light up when I half press the button. Luckily the exposure lock function itself works perfectly. You know I hate it because I know that I have 2 choices: keep it like it is and live with it or return it and wait for it to be fixed. what do you think I should do? ciao! Giulio, I assume your discussion with the dealer did not go further than what you described about what to do if there was a new out-of-the-box problem; it seems that would govern with the dealer. I doubt that an in-store inspection would have been sufficiently thorough to discover the fault you describe. The instructive theme in this thread seems to be "get the store's return policy in writing when you buy something as expensive as an M8."
