LCD M8 Screen Protector Problems

Recommended Posts

I bought a pack of Screen Patronus LCD protectors for my M8. I followed the instructions completely, making sure the screen was clean before applying the protectors. In all 3 cases, the protector came off of partially or totally within 3-4 days. They seem to need more adhesion. Usually, they seem to come off when one of the corners rubs against the inside of my Domke bag.

Are there any other brands anyone has used that work correctly?

I told ScreenPatronus I had this problem some months ago. They promptly sent me replacements that had two sides cut to be 0.5mm (or was it 0.25mm) shorter. I think the problem's caused by the bevelled/rounded edges of the M8 screen. They cause the protector edge to stand slightly proud and prone to catch. The only difficulty I had with the reduced size protectors was applying them so they had an equal border on all four sides. One has now been on my camera for several months without any problems.

You can try shieldzone.com as their protectors are very tough. you will need to order a custom protector with the folowing specifications:

54 * 41 mm with radiused corners for the Leica M8 and pay their custom charge as they don't offer it standard yet.

if you place a piece of oversized paper over the LCD and rub lightly over the paper with a pencil to get an outline of the shape and size. Cut out the traced shape and place over LCD protector to get the perfect fit.

Nice idea! I will do that when I put my second Screen Patronus on. The first one lasted two or three weeks, but eventually a corner caught and now it is just unraveling by the minute. I tried to clean it and reapply it, as they mention, but couldn't get it right. Dust keeps getting onto it now and is almost impossible to get back off.
