Rainbow Imaging tube/hood

I know a couple of you have the Rainbow Imaging setup on your X1 or X2. Is that the only company making such a thing? Can't remember if there was another. Also, has anyone seen the need for a ND filter with the X2? 1/2000 isn't very fast, and I was wondering if if bright sunlight, especially on the beach or on snow, is that shutter speed fast enough to go to f /2.8? Just wondering as a might as well order one at the same time as a CP and UV.

ALSO, any issues with vignetting? Should I try and buy the ultra-slim filters to be safe?

Thanks!

I use the the Rainbow Imaging tube. NO vignetting. I also got a B+W UV filter which does not appear to be the slim type and still no vignetting. I think it was this one: B+W 49mm Clear UV Haze with Multi-Resistant Coating (010M).

I'm on business travel so I can't verify if this is the filter, but i'm pretty retain it was.

Jeff, the Kiwifotos tube is on my list along with a stepup ring to accommodate my Nikon closeup lenses. I have seen no issues with this tube posted anywhere and it is definitely a good product at a good price.:)

Cool VETTRAN I appreciate your feedback. Dave, I was considering a step-up ring as well. I already have a full compliment of filters at 52mm, should be alright, no...? It would save having to re-buy a few filters anyway.

I thought I read somewhere that another company was making something similar to this tube, but maybe I was thinking "Kiwi" and "Rainbow". After a little online shopping, I realize they are one and the same :o

I'm having a helluva time trying to find a small pouch to fit this camera anyway, may as well put on the tube and carry it like a small M.

Pouch? Well, I'm kinda leaning away from that now. I like keeping the OVF on the camera rather than sliding it on and off, so that really eliminates pouches. I guess a fanny pack would work, but I'm not really a fanny pack person. Besides, I can carry it with a shoulder strap when I'm shooting and the OVF, Kiwi tube, etc won't matter. I'll just take it off and tuck it into my Domke bag when not in use. Still getting used to the camera in general, so I guess I don't really have a clue what I want! It's nice to be able to bounce ideas off people here though.

I don't have an X2 yet, but do have M9 and couple of lenses and various point&shoots. For a small bag to carry around, I'd definitely recommend the Bare Bones Bag Evolution. Sure, it's a bit expensive but it sure is good as well. When carrying the bag I keep my m with wrist strap only. For that I have the Gordy's leather strap which is also really good and cheap as well!

Anyway, here's the bag:

Wears nicely against the body, has room for the X2 with tubes and bells and whistles, fit a water bottle, wallet etc.. and iPad on the back side. Perfect fit.

Feel free to bounce ;-)

If you operate the X1 with at the OVF and the Kiwi tube, the dimensions of the camera will be about 3 inches high and 3 inches deep with obviously the same width. So whatever bag you select, make sure it's large (deep) enough.

In that configuration, I use a Neoprene camera case by Optech. It's this one, I think: OP/TECH USA Rangefinder Soft Pouch 7001224 B&H Photo Video

Then I carry it in a Filsen or Tumi bag.

Regarding your bag selection, I con't see why you would buy a dedicated camera bag for just the X1. I'd buy a bag that has other uses, but also fits the X1 when desired such as a Tumi, Filsen, or other messenger bag.

Can anyone recommend (a link would be great) to a slip-on friction-fit type of lens cap to fit the Kiwi tube? I have a B+W slim UV on it now and the X2 lens cap of course won't work. I plan to add the B+W CP and we all know their slip-on caps are useless. Something like this maybe, but I'm not sure which size to get... Kaiser 51mm Push-On Lens Cap 206951 B&H Photo Video

Thanks!

Yes the tube takes 49mm filters, but if my M glass is any indication, a slip-on cap of the same diameter is way too small (i.e 39mm on my 50 'cron). I may just have to order a 50, 51 and 52 and return the ones that won't fit. The Kiwi tube isn't carried by anyone that I know of who might be able to check for me. I only found it at one place ~ Amazon.

Thanks for the reply Dave and I'd appreciate more info on Wings in ATL :) PM or email me when you can.
