seaninsurrey Posted March 10, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 10, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well, I managed to get hold of a Summicron 35/2 4th version from eBay.....all seemed to be ok, until I noticed that the rectangular hood doesn't sit 'straight' on the lens, this is really annoying! I notice the front (lens) can be unscrewed slightly so that it does line up, but it means that it is not 100% tight. Any ideas what is causing this and how it can be fixed? Where should it be sent in the UK and how much will it cost?! Thanks in advance.
Advertisement Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Hi seaninsurrey, Take a look here 35/2 Summicron (4th) Hood not Straight!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
andybarton Posted March 11, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 11, 2007 I would send it to Milton Keynes. They can service lenses on site.
chilihead Posted March 13, 2007 Share #3 Posted March 13, 2007 I had this same problem - do what I did - throw the lens hood in the garbage where it belongs and then get a Leitz Wetzlar hood #12504 - made of metal and made for the Summicron f2 and Summilux f1.4, they are circular and work and look much better - they just clip on, and - it also unscrews and you can insert a filter - they are a tad pricey, BUT - you will be totally happy with this hood, I don't think you can get these new - look on ebay - cheers- Peter
Dan States Posted March 13, 2007 Share #4 Posted March 13, 2007 The front of the lens is supposed to be cemented in place. They are often broken loose by users who try to twist off the press on lens caps that came with the lens. The lens needs to go to Leica to be re-cemented. I would be in touch with the seller as this is going to cost you to make right. Good luck and best wishes Dan
seaninsurrey Posted March 20, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted March 20, 2007 Thanks for all your input. I live in the UK and need to get a quote for the re-cementing. I sent an e-mail to the Leica servicing department, but didn't hear back from them Could anyone give me some guidance as to where I should get a quote for the repair? timwalker Posted March 23, 2007 Share #7 Posted March 23, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sean, I have noticed mine is that way as well and especially now hearing your story I wonder if it's a common design/manufacturing flaw. It bugs me, too, considering the expense of that lens.
