Hallo.

I want to ask You something. I have an offer to buy Leica S2-P with 70mm 2.5asph for about 16.000Euros and I've a dilemma. S2 was in service in Germany. It has broken (in German language, I can not translate :) Deckglas von Sensor gebrochen, Sensor austauschen, Belederung/Bezug austauschen. Now everything works perfectly but can You tell me does it worth money?

Thank You for help :)

Welcome to the forum, Tom.

But you have a tough question for a start. Only you can know if this

equipment suits you needs and abilities and fits your EUROS. Technically you don´t

have to fear anything, once back from LEICALAND it should be perfect for quite a while ahead.

In case you earn your money with your photography, this camera could well

be what you always needed.

Keep us informed ...

Best

GEORG

Hello,

you should e-mail LEICA and give them the serielnumber to get this question answered.

I don´t have an S2 (so far) but in case the one you can get is a "P"

you will receive the adequate"professional care" for it in future.

The P is for "professional service" mainly, this means very quick repair, replacement camera in the time of repair etc. The details should be seen on the website of Leica, as both variants are actually available.

The price sounds very good for me, if the camera and lens is not worn out. Please check also till when the guaranty is available, but I think this is an attractive package.

The sensor-glas breaks at random, and it is rare. So the repair give no prognostics for the future. But the repair gives you another year or so garanty. Also, as the s2 is premium, espcially the S2P, I never heard complaints about the service.

S2P with 70 mm and Leica guarantee. IMHO, that's a no brainer. Only question I would ask is "If it's too good to be true, it's normally not true." But if you check the serial number (to be sure that die Kamera ist nicht von LKW gefallen) and the guarantee is valid, and if, in principle, you want the camera, I would go for it. Unless there is an S3 coming out for the same price in September (I know that this last comment was not fair :D but so is 16k for an S2P with the 70mm lens).

Hallo

Yes, I've read some about Leica S3 and now I've next dilemma: buy Leica S2-P from second hand with lens in a good price or wait for Leica S3? hmmm

Everybody has this dilemma once in a while (actually M9 buyers have it too), but for the S2 it is especially embarassing.

I think the price of the offer you have is more than ok. If you don't need better ISO, Live view or maybe higher resolution (the things that a S3 is likely to improve), then go for this really apealing offer. You will probably have to wait till spring 2013 though, as Leica is not really the fastes company. And you have to consider that you may not get the same price then ......

And, in my opinion the S2 will keep up to date for some years at least. Even if other companies catch up with resolution, they don't have the lenses to match.

Yesterday I got e-mail from Leica: "the Leica S2 was checked in our service. The Camera is ok. The platinum service is from Leica and is for 1 year"

So I think that everything is ok with this second hand model. Now I've to consider: buy this one or wait for Leica S3 and buy new S2 much cheaper :))

Now I've to consider: buy this one or wait for Leica S3 and buy new S2 much cheaper

Where will you get this new S2 "much cheaper", if not used?

There are very fiew dealers who have a S2 on stock and will sell them at a hughe discount after the arrival of the S3. This is not a mass-produced camera, most dealers have them only on request. Even the M8 took about a year after the release of the M9 to get a noticable price-drop at the dealers.

Also, as far as what I heard from other S2 owners, there are not so many who will switch instantly to a S3. Most made a hughe investment by buying an S2 and some lenses and are now not so urged to upgrade soon (unless Leica is offering a very (!) attractive upgrade plan).

Well, we will see. On the long term, the price will drop for sure, but how much, and when?

Yes, we will see. For me it will be a big change because now I have M9-P and Nikon D3 but I'm dreaming from some time to change my system to MF. I was thinking about Phase One etc. but S2 is very similar like D3 (weight, dimensions etc) and Leica lens of course wowww
