Leica EVF-2 for X2 - Case Included?

I have my X2 on order, finally, but they are backordered for another week or two. I've been reading about the EVF-2 and was wondering if it comes with some sort of leather case? I saw several on eBay and most didn't mention it. One, however, had a nice leather snap case that looked like it would connect to the strap, akin to the old Leicameter leather cases. Any insight on this? Maybe this case was something else? For $500+ it wouldn't be an unreasonable expectation...

etherfarm, one more question... what color is the case - black, cordovan, etc? Reason I was wondering is my *old* Leica leather is cordovan. Looking for a half case (per my other post) and want to match it.

The case is black. Same sort of cheap quality shiny leather as many (not all) Leica cases. My case does not have a pass-thru for a strap, which is very annoying. Luckily, I had an old custom strap-fitting case I had Luigi make for a spare Canon 5D2 battery. It fits the EVF just fine after a little improvised stretching. And the quality of leather that Luigi uses is light years ahead of any corporate manufactured item. My custom Luigi X1 shoulder case pouch fits the X2 perfectly. Coupled with the custom EVF pouch, I'm ready for any occasion!

I wonder why my Leica EVF case doesn't have a pass-thru? Laziness at the factory? Or was Leica trying to get these out into the wild as fast as possible? Please note that I pre-orderd my X2 and my EVF. I received my EVF a week before I got my X2

You sure it doesn't have a pass through? I doubt they make different cases.

Look at the bottom of the case. There's a space between the piece of leather which forms the front of the case, the very bottom of the case, the back of the case and the flap. Run the strap through that.

Agreed on Luigi leather. I have his full case for my M9. Best leatherwork I own.

I noticed the gap area could thread a strap thru it, but it seems 'makeshift' and not 'planned' in the design stage. Plus it makes the case appear sideways on the strap (Leica logo is also sideways). The gray OVF case for the X1 was very nice, it had a strap loophole sewn into the back. And the logo was rightside up. It was made to be used with a neck strap and the X1 gray carry case. Nice magnetic closure. Aesthetically, it was a well-executed piece. Ergonomically, too.

In comparing the EVF case and X1 OVF case, the EVF case appears totally an afterthought in design. So much so, that I have assumed that the little pass-thru space on the bottom of the case was simply a flaw that could be exploited, albeit not intended by Leica.

Cheers :)

Well, to be fair, Olympus probably made this case. :)

Anyways, afterthought or not, it's not accurate to say that there isn't a pass through. I'd agree on the aesthetics; ergonomically I see nothing wrong with a bottom mount given the fit of the EVF in the case, but clearly people will have different preferences. I do agree that a magnetic closure would be better than the velcro.

I think it was the D-lux 4 where Leica would send you a nice SD card holder for registering. It was leather, well-made, with a magnetic snap. A larger version of that with a strap loop wouldn't be any more functional, I think, but it would have been nice.
