Shootist Posted March 9, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 9, 2007 I talked to Leica NJ just the other day about this. They are swamped with lenses for coding. Thay say they do all the coding here in the US but I have read on this forum that some people have had their lenses sent back to Germany to have the coding done. Actually they don't code the original mounting ring, they replace it with one that is already coded. I have a 24 f/2.8 and a couple of 90 Tele-Elmarits that needs to be coded. I just got 2 vouchers for lens coding in the mail and I'm expecting 2 more soon, I bought 2 new lenses and with each you get 2 vouchers to have coding done free. I'm going to wait at least a month before I send in any lens for coding. Even if you took the lens to NJ and dropped it off at the Leica facility it will take 4-8 weeks before you get it back. That is "IF" they have the mounting ring for that particular lens on hand when they finally get to doing the coding.
jfgilbert Posted March 9, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 9, 2007 FWIW, I sent three lenses to Leica NJ for coding on Feb. 8th and they were delivered back to my house yesterday.
James Mitchell Posted March 9, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 9, 2007 I've been waiting six weeks so far for a 50mm 1.4 ASPH at Leica NJ.
Guest WPalank Posted March 9, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 9, 2007 FWIW, I sent three lenses to Leica NJ for coding on Feb. 8th and they were delivered back to my house yesterday. Jacques, Which lenses? Leica NJ has had my 21mm since the middle of December of last year. So roughly 11 weeks.
DaCh Posted March 9, 2007 Share #6  Posted March 9, 2007 I think ASPH lenses will go back to Solms because they need some clever kit to set them up after the mount is changed. I expect Leica NJ only code the non ASPH lenses. I got four lenses back (to UK) today after exactly eight weeks. You must pretend it’s a game; see if you can do all your photography on a 15mm lens for a couple of months, I had great fun with a 15 and a 135. Definitely helps to focus the mind. Rob-- Others have given answers that go toward point one. Â As for IR filters, they are available from B+W if not yet from Leica, though that will be more money out of pocket. Check with Photo Huppert or B&H or Popflash. Â As for point three, I can only guess that they wouldn't be too good. The filters seem to be a must. At the moment, coding would only be helpful; when firmware 1.1 comes out, it will become quite helpful for the 24 and 35. Â There's someone on the forum whose business is shooting dancers in live performance. He could probably help with point three. Â Unfortunately, his name escapes me for the moment, but maybe someone else will remember. Â --HC

Jager Posted March 12, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted March 12, 2007 Shutter lag? Â Welcome back, Sean. Hope your travels have gone (or are going) well. Â Yeah, there was a thread a few days ago, right after the 1.092 firmware release, where the extended sound of the M8 shutter cocking was interpreted by a few as shutter lag, with at least one poster signaling that it was a very real problem. Â Me, I can't detect any material difference between the shutter lag on my M8 versus my M6 or M7. Â Jeff
