Vocal 'haters' don't own the X1, that's why they are 'haters' :p

That is very true. ;)

I keep wanting to want to buy the x2 but my x1 does all that I want it to do so I must continue to watch from the sidelines. Enjoy your x2.

The X cameras are made in Leica's factory in Portugal. Just like the M9.

They must have some final work done in Germany to qualify for the "Made in Germany" label. Just like the M9.

Which components are taken from much cheaper cameras?

Not true, the M9 is Made in Solms.

When you make the factory tour, you will be guided to pass the area where the M9 is assembled, and the final quality control is done!

Some individual parts are however made in Portugal!

Many components from the M9 and S2 are sourced from Germany (machined parts, PCBs...) - with the X-series that's most likely not the case.

The (cheap) mechanics from the battery door seem very familiar to me. The plastic barrel from the lens system are also clearly from other vendors with similar designs in much cheaper cameras.

From a small company - struggling for survival - I accept rebadged Panasonics or the X-series-approach...

From a small company with 100M€ profit over the last two years and world-class resources located nearby I expect more!

I have done the tour too and I've watched the video.

Most of the M9 assembly is done in Portugal, with the camera being finished off and tested in Solms. Bodies arrive about 3/4 complete. Many of the components are made in Germany and shipped to Portugal for assembly, then returned as substantially assembled components.

Georg - can you let me know which camera uses the same lens as the X1/2? Thanks.

The X2/X1 ist not made in Germany, many components are just taken from much cheaper cameras, but as long nobody goes to court (hardly any German competitor affected by this false claim) they can continue to label it that way. IMHO.

And making false accusations is ok, you think?:(

Just bought an X2. Use D700 and OM-D. Wanted it because it seemed closest so far to my old Contax T3, which I love so much. I like to travel light, and with young kids, even the OM-D seems heavy at times (competing with nappies, etc). I think the X2 will be great. Played with it in the Leica store and was quite responsive. I hate EVF and SLR. But really enjoy the OVF. I currently have the Voigtlander and used it on the GF1. I found it hard to use with glasses. The eye relief is quite close. Haven't yet tried the Zeiss or Leica OVF yet. Hope this helps.
