A major Norwegian dealer is offering the 0.95/50 with good discount:

Leica Noctilux-M 50mm f/0.95 ASPH - 64.999,- - Japan Photo Norge

NOK 65 000 is equivalent to about USD 10 800 but is inclusive of 25 % tax, so the export price is only about USD 8 700.

If they are able to get lenses I do not know but this is a major retailer so there should be no risk at least.

Must be that new fangled 50mm T0.95 lens Magic something causing Leica to shiver in its boots so own lens is being quickly offloaded before competition starts flooding market.

I doubt that. four people have been mentioned elsewhere on the forum as having bought the lens. Of those one has already sold it, two are seeking a refund as the lens is faulty, and the fourth has had his delivery delayed.

I can't imagine any competitive lens has ever made Leica shiver in their boots. As for the Norwegian lens, it may be discounted to partially offset the eye-watering VAT there.

I thought the joke was pretty clear. This forum often reminds me of the scene in Rain Man where the Tom Cruise character tries to explain the "Who's on first base?" Abbott and Costello skit to his brother.

But as Steve Huff has one which he's particularly pleased with . . . . . .

I like mine but it's grossly over-rated as a lens to have on the front of your camera all the time. Too big and heavy and not every image benefits from shallow DoF. More and more, I find the 35mm Summilux is the right lens.

I completely agree. The 35mm Lux is my first choice on the digital M and M. The noct is a specialist, the weight of two good alternatives. When the ISO on the digital M becomes reasonably high the noct might find itself redundant. But there is the no better way to enjoy modern Leica lens nirvana.

Thank you for the head's up Ivar! Not for the Noctilux, but they also have discounted the 35mm Summilux-M ASPH (II). I've been looking for that lens used, but all the offers were above RRP. So, once again: Joining the back of the queue

I agree with all your points Mark, the Noctilux is over-rated. I just sold my new Noctilux 0.95 having used it for about a month. I should also add that the chromatic aberration when shooting into the light is a deal-breaker for me. The Summilux f1.4 ASPH is my lens of first choice, followed by the 40mm Summicron.

That was a short queue. The 35mm Summilux was shipped within one hour of ordering it, even though they said they had none in stock.

It just might be worth giving them a call if you have the chance to pick up in Norway, and claim the VAT refund.
