M9reno Posted June 19, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 19, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello everyone, I have just bought what looks like a good (and certainly handsome) Leicavit for my IIIg. Before attaching it to the camera, I tried it out and could see nothing wrong. Since attaching the Leicavit, I have a number of issues: 1) The open/lock lever does not engage fully in the lock position. 2) When moved to the open position, the lever does not allow me to remove the Leicavit! By the looks of it, it's permanently attached to my IIIg, which is alarming! 3) In use, the Leicavit is smooth and silent, but when released does not forward a full frame. It needs that little extra pull on the Leicavit handle or twist of the camera's forward knob. I suspect that issue 3 may be linked to 1-2, in so far as the Leicavit is not properly fitted to the camera. The trick now is to get the darn thing off without forcing and/or damaging anything. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

For openning the little lever must be pushed down 1 millimeter or so, its a safety lock. next you must have the shutter armed before connecting the Leicavit check also if the little lever rewind on top of camera is full engaged on. Good luck
M9reno Posted June 19, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted June 19, 2012 Thank you, JC. I'm sure there is a simple solution. I see the safety catch. I think when the Leicavit was not on the camera, I could move the lever all the way to the catch. Now the lever will not move all the way to the lock position, so it is not engaged in the catch. Instead, the lever is moving 5/6 of the way, from open to just before the lock catch. I still cannot remove the Leicavit when it is in the open position. The rewind knob is on A, the shutter fully cocked. Still nothing. There is some give on the Leicavit when the lever is approximately half way between open and closed. I have tried to get it off in this position gently, without forcing anything, but nothing. Curiously, when the lever reaches open, there is no give. The Leicavit seems solidly attached. Hmmm. jc_braconi Posted June 19, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 19, 2012 May be you can have a better grip using a tilt head for tripod screwed on the base. how it was when you settled it on the camera easy or tight ? I just tried one and it is easy to fit/lock/unlock/remove
M9reno Posted June 19, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted June 19, 2012 Thanks, JC. Yes, it went on easily enough originally, or so I thought. There's definitely something not quite right. The camera and Leicavit are off to Malcolm Taylor tomorrow. Thanks again.
M9reno Posted June 21, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted June 21, 2012 An update: in Malcolm's hands the Leicavit has come off (though he had to take it apart it to do so) and the problem was a mistaken re-assembly of its locking mechanism by a previous 'technician'.
