MichaelRabern Posted June 18, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted June 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Â Not sure if this has happened to anyone here but my 11663--with no warning--broke. I had just took some photos, and sat the camera with lens on the table. I picked it up to take a photo and the focus ring was loose! No less than three mm of play and would move forward towards the aperture ring. Shocked! Of course tomorrow it will be shipped for repair, somewhere? This is do not know. Solms? Â Has this ever happened to anyone here? I have had it only three months or so. New and used to great delight on my MP and M9P. I will miss my 35. Â Thoughts? vicmantang Posted October 6, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted October 6, 2012 Hi MichaelRabern, Â I am writing this from Hong Kong. Just got my M9P + a 35mm 1.4 ASPH brand new cost a fortune (at least to me) I handle the camera just a new born baby, took it to Singapore the other day and start shooting. By the 3rd day, all of a sudden I found that the Focus Ring have a 2mm-3mm loose. Very frustrated and disappointed. However, I kept using it til' the end of the trip. It didn't seem to affect the focus of the photos. Â My question to you is when u took it back to Leica in NJ, did they explained to you what is the trigger to this problem? Obviously, if it happens to me & you it should be a fairly common thing for the 11663 (35mm). I am planning to bring it back to the shop and send it to Germany next week since I have 2 yrs warranty. If we know the core of the problem it may help us avoid encountering the same issue in the future. Â Many Thanks Victor
tobey bilek Posted October 14, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted October 14, 2012 The mechanics of the new lenses are not as good as the 1960/1980 lenses. Optically better although. Â I suggest you mount and dismount holding the lens as close to the flange as possible. Any place else stresses the small set screws that hold it together. 28 Summicrons are notorious for loosening optics and it is a big problem to get it realigned, not just reset the screws. Older lenses never has issues like this.
