HiltonJoy Posted June 15, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted June 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, just an interesting observation. My X1 JPG settings haven't been altered. Preset film Standard Saturation Standard Contrast Standard Yet the OOC images seem overly saturated particularly in the green hue. Not natural at all. Here in Hong Kong its been quite wet of late and I realize the new growth on trees and grass is awesome, but prior to this observation I loved the way the OOC images faithfully represented the reality of the scene. I purchased my X1 with V2 firmware already installed. Just reinstalled V2 again and will test further tomorrow. Yes I know I can dial down the setting. I shoot in DNG + JPG S.fine 12.2 I finesse the DNG using ACR, LR, & PS for a pleasing result on a calibrated monitor. What am I overlooking ?

HiltonJoy Posted June 16, 2012 Author Share #3  Posted June 16, 2012 Thanks Dave, would be happy to, however it wouldn't illustrate the issue. Colour is so subjective, you remember the ambience of a scene mentally, but when viewing the image it seems over done. Kind of over cooked. I do use a grey card sometimes to reference a shot, but this has proved inconclusive. Auto WB has been very accurate so far. May need to buy a color checker, although haven't had a chance to check again after reloading the firmware. Raining here today. Welcome, dear visitor! tnturnerx1 Posted June 17, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted June 17, 2012 To be honest, I have had really mixed result w/JPG out-of-camera. On my recent field trip to China to take photos for TheArtfulToad.com, I was absolutely embarrassed by the horrible JPGs. I had the only camera in our family, but other people had cheap Fuji cameras that only shot JPG. I bet those cameras cost less than $100, but their JPG shots were outstanding. My shots quite often were much less sharp than theirs and the color from X1 was HORRIBLE. Some of this was due to my settings. I learned to set everything at Standard, except Sharpness (or Contrast, i can't remember) to medium. Then, the JPGs came out better. However, I had terrible problems with indoor shots using flass. I used the Leica 24D flash, often with terrible results. Shots taken out of doors with settings mentioned above were adequate. For the Toad, I only process raw files, but for friends and family, while in China, I had to give them JPGs, and they were very unhappy with output from the $2000 camera. I need to experiment more with that flash for indoor shots. However, the Mr. Toad doesn't care about indoor shots, generally. Next trip to China, I'll take my wife's Canon G series camera for indoor family pics.
