MSUSpartan Posted June 12, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I sold my M9 and 35/FLE and basically going back to the basics... I'm now on a MP with a 35 Summilux Pre-ASPH. However, I know some of you are using old lenses so hopefully this is the right place to post since it has more traffic. I have fitted my Pre-ASPH with the new Summicron hood 12526. It fits awesome with a tiny rubber band where the groove is and it stays in place. Looks and works much better than the old circular hood. The only issue is now that the buttons/tabs that releases the hood from the lens is obstructing the aperture ring. It makes it pretty hard to reach the aperture ring so it's been very frustrating especially on the limited shutter speed/fixed iso of film. Does anyone have any experience here in filing down the tabs on a lens hood? I'm thinking a Dremel will do the trick but just wondering if anyone here have any tips. Thanks in advance. Are you talking about filing the pushbuttons on the outside of the rim, or the tiny metal claws inside, or the two protruding index tabs at 12:00 and 6:00? The latter two would be a simple file-down. The pushbuttons would not be difficult, but it would take some skill and care not to gouge the surroundings while doing the deed. Some tape to isolate the buttons might be a good idea. Then again, if you're fundamentally ok with permanently altering a $114 hood so it will no longer attach to the lens it was designed for, so that it can be juryrigged to a lens it was not designed for, I don't suppose a few stray abrasions would "ruin" it.
