wag Posted March 8, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'd appreciate opinions on the newer apo cron 90/2 asph for, not in your face, portraiture. I have a 75/1.4 lux and while I like it very much, it doesn't allow for distant intimacy, if that doesn't sound too neurotic. Anyway, I have a discount coupon burning a hole in my pocket and the WATE is appealing for different uses but i need to get closer images at weddings than the 75 achieves. I'm long on 28 and 50's. Any thoughts? brad

sdai Posted March 8, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 8, 2007 If you like razor sharp images even wide open then by all means go for the 90AA ... I haven't taken it off from one of my M7s since I've got it but then, that's exactly why a heck lot of people don't like it.
rosuna Posted March 8, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 8, 2007 Will the lens be used with a film Leica or the M8?
macusque Posted March 8, 2007 Share #4  Posted March 8, 2007 Well, I guess on the M8 otherwise why posting in the Digital Forum ?  I love the 90 Apo, sharp with great colors and bokeh. It's also the longest lens I can comfortably use on the M8.  Portrait (sort of)... Welcome, dear visitor! Laki Posted March 8, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 8, 2007 hi, Â i'm struggling as well between the 90 and a 75, in both cases i'm not sure which one, any suggestions? the lens should be used mainly on a m8. is the 90 really comfortable in focussing? i have the leica magnifier on as well, i guess that helps also there. Â cheers laki
rosuna Posted March 8, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted March 8, 2007 The 90mm lens maybe difficult to focus without magnifier at f2. I am also considering the 75/90 alternative.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 8, 2007 Share #7  Posted March 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Well after some shifting around this is what i finally came up with was the 75 lux and 90 apo and thy are a nice combo to have if you want two. The 75 lux for me is the people lens portraits and such just because of that sharp focus point and soft OOF area's . The 90 is the get me there lens for a lot of things plus the framelines on the 90 are more accurate. Focusing the 90 is smoother mechnically than the 75 lux which is a tight focus but with the 1.25 i can nail them very well. One thing I notice when i do the type of shots below is shutter speed with the 90 I pretty much have to use 1/125th or 1/90 the 75mm i can squeeze 1/60 but depends too on there movement but i am a pretty steady rock shooting these but even so you really have to watch yourself with the longer glass.  This is a 90 apo at 1/90 shot at 640 but pushed to 1250 or a little more Welcome, dear visitor! Â The 90 Apo is rather easy to focus on the M8 even without the 1.25x magnifier. Indeed from my experience I'm seeing little if any difference in focussing speed/accuracy compared to the 75 Apo, which I sold. I can't comment on the 75 Summilux on the M8, because I only had one many years ago on an M6, where it focussed fine, even if a bit slower (like the Noctilux). boilerdoc Posted March 8, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted March 8, 2007 Not that much difference from a 50 to the 75. Get the 90 AA. Works fantastic. Superb people/portraits. It's basically a 120/2 lens on the M8. Love mine. Steve
rosuna Posted March 8, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted March 8, 2007 The main difference between 90/2 and 75/2 is the performance at short distances. The 75/2 has floating elements, and the 90/2 doesn't. I suppose the 90/2 is great at medium to infinite distances, but the 75/2 is better at short distances. Is that true? Â How this affects their respective qualities as portrait lenses? (Maybe the narrower FoV of the 90/2 on the M8 doesn't allow short distance shots anyway).
robsteve Posted March 8, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted March 8, 2007 I met my wife and one of my sons for lunch at a kid friendly cafe this afternoon. Here is what I got with the M8 and 90mm APO ASPH. There is a little motion blur in the last two, but you can ge an idea of the qualities of this lens. Â They were all shot at f2, the first one was nearer the window light and was at 320iso, the other two were at 640iso and 1/60th and 1/90th.
