jdsheepdog Posted June 3, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Two questions to the amazing people who know so much about these cameras. 1/. What is the filter size for the TM f1.5 50 mm Summaron? I walk it into camera stores and they look at it with blank and unknowing disbelief, despite treating it with the sort of reverence usually granted to shards of the true cross. It is appears to be about 40mm. Even worse, the same question for a Summaron f3.5 35mm TM. The lens cap is approx 30mm, and the inner filter thread appears to be about 21 mm. 2/. I have an M3, and an MP. I also have the 35mm f2.8 Summaron. It has the "Myopic Herr Doktor" optical bridge that while important on the M3 is less important on the MP, and is a pain when changing lenses if the camera is in a case, Luigi or otherwise. What happens if I simply take it off?

I walk it into camera stores and they look at it with blank and unknowing disbelief, despite treating it with the sort of reverence usually granted to shards of the true cross. It is appears to be about 40mm. There's no such lens. I guess you mean the 50/1.5 Summarit, which takes an E41 screw-in filter. Even worse, the same question for a Summaron f3.5 35mm TM. The lens cap is approx 30mm, and the inner filter thread appears to be about 21 mm. These take A36 (36mm clamp-on) except for the last produced, which take E39 like the bayonet-mount versions. 2/. What happens if I simply take it off? Rangefinder focusing won't work correctly on either camera.
tobey bilek Posted June 3, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 3, 2012 Lots of luck finding E41. Otherwise I like the Summarit and wish I could find an easy way to use it on my M8. The 3.5 summaron I have has a push on ancient shade that takes series 6 filters. If I reverse a 39 mm, it fits, in the ser 6 groove. You can find such items at flea markets amd central camera, Chicago. I have had mine 50 +years.
