edmond_terakopian Posted May 30, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 30, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings Folks, Â Just bought the Leica SF 58 flash and would really like to hook it up to my Quantum Turbo SC (Slim Compact). Â As far as I can tell, the Quantum CM58 cable should work. Does anyone use this combination? Any thoughts? How well does the setup work? Â Cheers, Â Edmond :-) Â PS Also wondering if there's a more current firmware than v1.1; couldn't find it on the Leica UK website!

GlennB Posted May 30, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted May 30, 2012 To the best of my knowledge, Unless there has been a firmware update for the SF58 that I haven't heard about, the only external battery pack that can be used with the Leica flash is one made by Metz (who also make the SF58). It is kinda expensive . The Metz flash equivalent however, can be used with a Quantum battery pack, according to Quantum. Â Good luck, Glenn

Plus, I already have three Quantum Turbo SCs so would rather use those - if they work!!  I hope someone has tried this setup and is happy with it; otherwise I just might have to go for the Metz pack :-(
edmond_terakopian Posted June 2, 2012 Author Share #4 Â Posted June 2, 2012 Sorry to bump this up to the top but wondered if anyone may have an answer on the Quantum Turbo SC with the SF 58?? Cheers :-)
GlennB Posted June 2, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted June 2, 2012 Edmond, Â Your best answer might be had by placing a call to Leica and asking them what external battery pack they say CAN be used with the SF58. Â I've done several searches and can't find which external battery pack is recommended by Leica for the SF58 anywhere. Â I did find a post or two in this forum where Metz recommended their own rechargeable battery pack, and one where someone successfully used the Metz pack with the SF58 . wattsy Posted June 2, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted June 2, 2012 The Metz flash equivalent however, can be used with a Quantum battery pack, according to Quantum. Â Yes, this reference (at the bottom) suggests this is the case for the vanilla Metz flash. Is the SF-58 sufficiently different from the 58 AF that the same compatibility wouldn't also apply? Â Not a very scientific answer, Edmond, but I don't think you can do any damage trying the SF-58 and Quantum combination out.

rbaron Posted April 10, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted April 10, 2013 Thanks Ian - I think I shall give it a try!! Fingers crossed :-) Â This thread seems to have dropped off without an answer, so I'll supply mine. I just bought a used CM58 cord from B&H and tried to plug it into my Leica SF-58 flash and although the plug would at first appear to be compatible with the flash unit it is not; it would not fully seat and thus not give power from my Quantum Turbo SC battery pack to the flash. Â I'll now send it back to B&H for a refund. Â Did anyone else get a different result? Â --Bob
