Hello,

any experience with flare resistance for the new APO-Summicron-M 50mm lens? For instance compared to the latest 50mm Summilux M for a situation with the sun directly/near directly into the front element of the lens?

Thanks!

I have not been able to try the Apo (I am not that cosy with the Gnomes of Solms) but the Summilux ASPH is exceptionally resistant to flare, in all its manifestations, and internal reflections. This is why I sold my Summicron and bought the 'lux way back in 2005, because the old Summicron is quite unreliable in that respect.

So the Apo more or less has to be better than the Summicron. There are reports that the Apo is somewhat sensitive to side light hitting the deeply curved front lens. Maybe the lens should have had a Summarit-style hood.
