dhsimmonds Posted July 20, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 20, 2006 I also had the offer to download and try Lightroom for Windows (Beta) yesterday and spent a few hours with it last evening..............I really like it! In my opinion the RAW developer is not quite so instinctive as Rawshooter Premium but I guess that this is just a matter of spending much more time with it. The presentation is excellent but it does seem to take a long time to import a large folder of images compared to RSP. I haven't tried printing with it yet, although I did a "dry run" and could see and change all of the Epson R2400 printer settings so I do not anticipate any problems. davephoto Posted July 21, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 21, 2006 Would be very interested in knowing what changes you find when you do the conversion to install Lightroom. steven, the upgrade itself was painfully slow. took over 3.5 hrs but that may have been because i hadn't been keeping up with the recommended updates from microsoft during the past 18 mos. anyway, aside from losing just under a gig in hd space, the sp2 upgrade doesn't seem to have significantly slowed the performance of my computer. lightroom itself operates a tad slow -- especially in the develop module -- on my current configuration with only 512mb of ram. while i can see that adobe has made a strong attempt at making this image enhancing software more intuitive than photoshop, the new controls themselves in the develop module will take awhile to get used to. the library module is similar to a lot of other photo management software already in the market. slideshow seems to be quite useful, especially for making quick and easy portolio presentations in a number of formats, including pdf. I became exasperated trying to save my work. Has anyone learned how to simply save a photo after you crop or enhanse it? One time I stumbled across it and saved one, but then when I tried to use it for another program I was told it needed to be saved again; the TIFF file was a kind that the program, Neat Image could not use. I think there may be some speed issues when used on certain systems. I am running a pretty fast dual core/ dual processor XEON with 4gb of memory and Lightroom takes six to eight seconds to render changes in the develop window. It also seems to have video problems where the screen is not rewritten when you switch out of Lightroom to another application and back again to lightroom. I am a registered user of RawShooter Premium, and as a result of the agreement with Adobe, I will be getting a free copy of the software when it comes out in a retail version.
