tappan Posted May 20, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) With instructor Jason Stailey is coming to a city near you. My question is, is this class going to be vastly now that the Leica Monochrome has been introduced. I was going to take the Boston class in August. I have an M9. Just curious if anybody has any thoughts on this class possibly being changed a little bit...(which, of course, I don't want any changes because I am an M9 user not a Monochrome user. Advertisement Posted May 20, 2012 Posted May 20, 2012 Hi tappan, Take a look here Leica Akademie "Digital B&W" class.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StephenPatterson Posted May 20, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted May 20, 2012 I cannot speak directly to this class, but my feeling, having attended two previous Leica Akademie classes, is that it will not be M Monochrom specific. First, the instructors are photographers and not sales people, so they do a TERRIBLE job of pushing equipment (and I mean this in a very positive and affectionate way). The tone basically is "here's a bunch of lenses and bodies, shoot with what you want and ask questions along the way". Next, there is a strong likelihood that there will not even be a demo M Monochrom available for the class in August. And finally even if a demo is available Leica knows that customers will not have had time to purchase, as I don't think shipments are even beginning until August. Â I would imagine this class will focus on "seeing" in B&W, setting up your M9 for B&W previews with JPEGS (Tom Smith loves this) and processing in Lightroom. rramesh Posted May 20, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted May 20, 2012 I can bet you that after attending the class, you will purchase an M-Monochrom.
StephenPatterson Posted May 20, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted May 20, 2012 Or just continue producing excellent Color AND B&W images with the M9.
symmetron Posted May 20, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted May 20, 2012 Just attended a Street Photography Akademie class this weekend in DC. Class coordinator Tom Smith (Leica) really good guy and well organized class. Â I suspect the class will be M-9 centric regarding shooting RAW and B&W JPGs and then LR3 on the RAW to get the right B&W endpoint. I would be certain that there are no M9Ms since they aren't in any stores (that I'm aware of including DC) and they are pre-ordered and expected to be on back order. tappan Posted June 14, 2012 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 14, 2012 Does anybody think that last year's M9 Shooting Experience akademie class will be sufficiently different from the B&W class, or do you think it is worth it to have attended both? Thanks, Mark
Deliberate1 Posted June 23, 2012 Share #7  Posted June 23, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mark, I posed the same question to Leica as I ws already signed up for the Boston class. Response:  We currently have very limited number of Monochrom cameras in the U.S. However, it is our goal to have at least one camera for the Black & White workshops and participants will have the opportunity to try the camera albeit very briefly if we only have one unit.  Thank you.  Leica Akademie  Shirley De Silva  Mark, I think we can fairly assume that the class will not be M-centric. So you going? Anyone else signed up fo Boston? David
tappan Posted June 25, 2012 Author Share #8 Â Posted June 25, 2012 David, Thanks for your reply. Shirley from Leica is a very nice person to deal with. I think I will be going, any idea where it will be held? Mark
