Leica, after the Xtravaganza

I was not happy to receive an email from Leica after their extravaganza because they wanted my opinion of the new B/W M9 and opinion on the new $8,000 50mm lens, but they seem not to be concerned with the X2 as they did not ask my opinion.

Ok, so here's my opinion.

Xn series should be very important to Leica because many photographers are tired of lugging around heavy cameras (not that M series compares to weight of std DSLRs).

I like the X1 because it fits in a small bag on my belt, but the quality of the lens is not up to Leica standards.

B/W M: A wonderful idea and will be a big seller. Made me think about whether I could go all B/W, but TheArtfulToad.com can't. Sometimes a little color is critical to meaning. I think the B/W M will be a huge success.

The 50mm lens. Looks wonderful. But it will take me 5 years to save for the M10/11, and I can't save another 5 years for this lens.

Of course, if the X3 sports a far superior lens, even at a superior cost, I don't want an M--too big.

Regarding 12 MP vs 16 MP debate. I am waiting for reviews to see what people think. I can't help but think the 12 MP will have superior results. I'd rather stick to 12 MP for superior images. I don't need more than 12.
