good day all. My name is Andy and I live in Berkeley California. I have been reading and enjoying this forum for many years. I am finally posting today because I preordered the X2 just a few minutes ago. I am a longtime photo hobbiest and have been using the LX3, a Canon SLR and my iPhone as well as many other cameras over the decades. The X2 will bemy first Leica. I have purchased the X2 primarily because it is the only large sensor camera that does not suffer from feature bloat. I have looked at all the options, i.e fuji x100, and came close to purchasing it . but, as I was reading the list of everything the X100 could do for the 3rd time I started to get a stomach ache. That's when I hit the preorder button for the X2, now I feel better. I a going on a long trip this summer and hope to put my new camera to the test. Will try to keep you all posted on my progress, time to pay back all the advice I have received from this forum over the years. Thanks, Andy

Welcome Andy. You are quite rright about features bloat. When I look at my digital Leicas, I marvel at their reduction to the basics for picture making. But I guess many expect to find inbuilt recipes for everything they do with today's modern electronic miracles.

Welcome, Andy, and as others above said, we are all on that slippery slope but what fun is a sticky slope when you came for alpine skiing?:)

Looking forward with envy as you put the X2 to good use. Just post as soon as you can, we all want to see them.

About the time you start posting. It's not just taking, sometimes you need to give also! ;-)

Seriously though, welcome.

I can relate to your thinking for sure. That's why I went M originally. Back then there was no X series, so M8 was my choice. If the X had been out, things might be different now. The sheer price of digital M would have made me think at least twice about the X. Now, I'm well past half way marker on that slippery slope.. M9 and expensive lenses. Could it get any worse?? 8-)

You've now taken your first steps towards the edge, my friend.. maybe a year from now you'll already be saving for that M.

Never the less, I think you've made a great choice with X2. I think the upgrades from X1 make it a brilliant choice, especially for people not owning the X1. May it serve you well and keep posting (in the future with X2 photos).

Andy,

The X2/X1 is IMO the most ENJOYABLE camera to use. Tiny, discreet, quiet and gorgeous image quality.

Outside of shooting sports it is quite the best travel camera I have ever used, and I research my purchases carefully.

I've had over two years with this camera and it is still my camera of choice when traveling.

The biggest thing going for it is its dimunitive size, it begs to be brought anywhere and everywhere. My X1 is well-traveled haha...

Like they say, the best camera is the one you have with you!

Enjoy!
