Taking the plunge......

Greetings from a long time lurker.

I retired a year and a bit ago and after a break of some 30 years have once again entered the world of wedding photography. I've been using a Canon D10 and a D30 with Canon's 24-70 and 135 'L' series lenses and the amount of work coming my way is fairly healthy. However, the informal style of wedding photography with which I feel most at home and which is what is asked for by most of those who seek my services requires something like an M8 and so I've decided to take the plunge and get one.

I would appreciate some advice in what to buy in terms of lenses. I have not used an M series Leica or any of its lenses previously but have some experience of the Contax G2. My initial thoughts were the 35mm and 75mm Summicrons. What do you think? What is anyone else using for M8 weddings? Has anyone tried any of the Zeiss lenses?

TIA

Merrill, I'd add a 24mm to the other two lenses you mention. That would give you a wide angle (32mm equivalent with 35mm film) that you could use without having to resort to an external viewfinder.

If you don't want the cost of 3 Leica lenses, personally I'd go for the 24mm and 35mm. Please bear in mind I've only ever shot one or two weddings as an amateur, but for informal reportage shots I would think wider lenses would be better than longer ones - just my point of view.

Whatever you get you'll have fantastic lenses to play with.
