jneilt Posted May 11, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tomorrow is my daughters birthday...the M9 is in the shop so looks like a film event. In the freezer I have: all things B&W VS100 Velvia100 Portra160 Most activities will be inside of family kids and such...so should I push to 640? what about beyond that? andybarton Posted May 11, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 11, 2012 How good is your lab?
jneilt Posted May 11, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted May 11, 2012 Very good, one person does all the processing and has been in the business longer than I have been alive.
madNbad Posted May 12, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 12, 2012 Double the speed to 320 and leave it. Any more and the shadow area starts to lose deffinition. Break down and add a flash for fill.
plasticman Posted May 12, 2012 Share #5 Posted May 12, 2012 Double the speed to 320 and leave it. Any more and the shadow area starts to lose deffinition. Break down and add a flash for fill. Agree. I think the shadows will be brown grainy murk if you go too far. Try to handhold longer exposures and use the inevitable blur of kids running around for 'creative effect'. And enjoy the party! StS Posted May 12, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 12, 2012 My lab advised against pushing C41 more than one step as well. It might be worth to give your lab a call. Also, It might be worth to consider a digital backup camera. Stefan
jneilt Posted May 12, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted May 12, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) i did call the lab, they said one step only or what y'all stated above. Then went by there and swapped for some 400. Nice people.
philipus Posted May 15, 2012 Share #8 Posted May 15, 2012 So you have Portra 400 now? That one you can expose +/2 stops on the same roll and have developed with good results at box speed. Or just push it if you only need the faster speeds and develop at 800 or 1600. Amazingly good.
erl Posted May 15, 2012 Share #9 Posted May 15, 2012 Pushing any colour neg is very mediocre for results. The sort of thing you do after making an ISO mistake. Doing it deliberately is plain silly if you can avoid it. The 400 you have acquired is far better. I would even grab a roll of 800 if you can in the time. This event will never happen again, so don't mess with it. Try the 400, and if that is not fast enough, immediately switch to the 800ISO. Don't know how old your daughter is, but once they are walking, generally the younger they are the faster the film should be. Shoot, and keep shooting. One roll is not nearly enough.
