stephan_w Posted May 14, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 14, 2012 Assuming the possibility of a S3 based on a CMOS sensor... Is the "R solution" a similar adapter R to S? not possible due to an incompatible layout of the cameras
rosuna Posted May 16, 2012 Share #5 Posted May 16, 2012 not possible due to an incompatible layout of the cameras The lens to flange distance? Yes, that is the main problem, but the diameter of the S mount might allow an adapter... (I don't know this for sure, of course). CMOS sensors may "cut" the sensitive area, like the Nikons do, so 24x36 active areas are possible inside the 30x45 format.
stephan_w Posted May 16, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 16, 2012 The lens to flange distance? Yes, that is the main problem exactly, so this solution isn't one. The only R-Lenses that can be adapted are the longer lenses from Leica, as the Modul-System and (if I'm well informed), the 280 Apo-Telyt

rick_dykstra Posted August 19, 2012 Share #8 Posted August 19, 2012 exactly, so this solution isn't one. The only R-Lenses that can be adapted are the longer lenses from Leica, as the Modul-System and (if I'm well informed), the 280 Apo-Telyt Does anyone have any more information on this? Fitting the APO-Telyt R Modul lenses to the S2? Could it be that their ability to focus way beyond infinity is part of the solution? The 280/4 and 180/2 could be in the same boat. Interesting. Thanks. Rick. p.s. found this http://www.apotelyt.com/photo-lens/leica-apo-telyt-r-module which says; "Since Leica discontinued its R-line of SLR-cameras, the lens system is now somewhat orphaned. However, adapters for Leica R-lenses to other camera brands can be easily found on ebay, so that the APO-Telyts can have a digital future beyond the 10MB backs available for the R-cameras. Moreover, Leica expert David Farkas and colleagues have successfully modified the lens barrel and mount on one copy, such that the APO-Telyt can be used on the medium format Leica S2 (and yes, the image circle of the tele-lenses is apparently large enough to cover the full S2-sensor without significant vignetting)"
georg Posted August 25, 2012 Share #9 Posted August 25, 2012 In fact there is someone who adapts the R-tele-lenses to the S2 with apparantly excellent results. Norbert Rosing (one of the very best wildlife-photographers worlwide) seems to use the combination S2+Modul-System currently.
