fotolebrocq Posted May 9, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted May 9, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone been using the new Summilux without the hood? I tried it without for a day in bright sunshine into the sun, with the sun to the side etc and was completely unable to provoke any flare or noticeable loss of contrast. I'd be interested in others' experiences as this lens without the hood is quite a compact combo. Â Tony
Advertisement Posted May 9, 2012 Posted May 9, 2012 Hi fotolebrocq, Take a look here 35mm Summilux (FLE) naked. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
bpalme Posted May 9, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted May 9, 2012 That's interesting. I have not but to me the hood is so small and protects my glass I kinda like it.
wattsy Posted May 9, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted May 9, 2012 I've used this lens many times without the hood (as I have with the previous version of this lens) and I have not found flare in its various manifestations a problem.
LeicaPassion Posted May 9, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted May 9, 2012 I did "succeed" in pixel overload on the M9, according to Leica. A green line appeared at the top of the frame when the sun hit the front lens element of the 35 fle. The lens shade was in use.
brill64 Posted May 10, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted May 10, 2012 without a hood - naked - check around the edges of the frame (at 100%) for less contrast and/or sharpness fall off from the center?
gberger Posted May 11, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted May 11, 2012 I shoot the 35 (pre FLE) Lux Asph naked without a problem. The lens hood was too much of a bother, so I shot a roll of Astia alternating frames with and without the hood. Unless shooting with an extremely strong sidelight @ 60-75 degrees, I noticed no appreciable or disconcerting flare. So, the hood is in the drawer and the lens cap is used instead. Observations made both on my light table and projected (P2002, 90mm, matte screen)
