poptart Posted May 10, 2012 Share #62 Posted May 10, 2012 It's a great day for film and the current Ms. IMHO an epic fail by Leica.
framestore Posted May 10, 2012 Share #63 Posted May 10, 2012 I don't think I'm the only one feel overall very disappointed and underwhelmed. I will stick to my M9P for now or it's very tempting moment to adapt totally new system. After all they aren't listening to their customers nor willing to. Future is not so bright for Leica
digitalpowershot Posted May 10, 2012 Share #64 Posted May 10, 2012 "images that require very little or no further image processing." "Includes Nik Silver Efex Pro™ 2 and Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom®". ...and a new B&W only printer, perhaps ? I looked the same as you, as I saw SilverEfex included What's the point? I get now very good b/w conversion with the M9-P files, using SilverEfexPro2. Can't wait for the reviews.
andybarton Posted May 10, 2012 Share #65 Posted May 10, 2012 Just look at the specs. It could be very useful and an improvement in quality output if B&W is your thing. Six grand GBP? They will sell. I thought that the choice of subject matter for the example shots on Leica's webpages was very interesting. You can see where lots of these will be going. Jaybob Posted May 10, 2012 Share #66 Posted May 10, 2012 Here are the samples but no M9 files for comparison You could have never taken those pictures with a Sony NEX...or an M9.
pragmatist Posted May 10, 2012 Share #67 Posted May 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I wonder how many people will choose the M9 M over the M9? I mean with the super Nik silver efex pro B&W converter do we really need a dedicated B&W M9. Surely the traditional M9 gives you the best of both worlds. Sorry but i don't really see the benefit. Rolo Posted May 10, 2012 Share #72 Posted May 10, 2012 And what possible use is a monochrome only digital M? It's a marketing master stroke ! For the first time you can't sell your existing digital M. It'll double the population of digital Ms, maybe ....

I will stick to my M9P for now or it's very tempting moment to adapt totally new system. After all they aren't listening to their customers nor willing to. Future is not so bright for Leica  I would not say so. They are still selling the M9/P. I need color too, could not go b/w only, but I see myself converting in b/w very very often... (SilverEfexPro2) As a second body it would be perfect. I would use it only for street photography and portraits, but this will never happen (€€€€). I'll stick to my lovely M9-P and one lens for a very long time.
ALD Posted May 10, 2012 Share #75 Posted May 10, 2012 What total utter crap a Leica monochrome M? May as well go back to sleep. To haul all those people to Berlin for that? Think of the carbon used for the fuel to get there? 10 people will buy it! What a waste of time
Olsen Posted May 10, 2012 Share #76 Posted May 10, 2012 Sorry, but I am very disappointed. I had hoped for - modest - but significant improvements of the M9 to such an extent that the model could be called a M10. The market for a dedicated digital monocrome camera must be small. - I am not included in that segment. I did shoot B & W analogue up until I sold my MP a few years back. Sure, B & W 'was' a lot of fun. Or rather; 'had it's charm'. But the digital world, both during and after the exposure has taken over the time I have available for photography. I fear that this reminds us about the crisis Leica finds itself having problems finding a better sensor (color, of cause) that the now 'old' Kodak CCD. Nor have any of the competitors, like Zeiss or Voigtländer, come up with anything. Even though they are both in a better position since they are Japanese companies (or have Japanese subsidiaries) and could better utilize Japanese patented components. Like sensors. Charlie Johnson Posted May 10, 2012 Share #77 Posted May 10, 2012 Wow, imagine how fulfilled all the audience must be to come all that way to look at a B&W camera, that needs B&W software.
