wellsdc Posted April 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I mainly use Apple Aperture for post-prcessing and file organization. For the first six months or so of my M9 usage with it, basic EXIF data was automatically imported. It included, among other info, lens focal length, shutter speed and ISO. I would set the proper lens type and all else came through accurately under the metadata tab in Aperture. I don't refer to EXIF data often, so I just recently noticed that for almost a month now none of that basic information has come though. I am using the M9 in the same way, setting the lens type, etc. The only thing that has changed is that I upgraded to a new Mac desktop. It has the latest Aperture version, as does my MacBook Pro. The EXIF data seems to work fine on my MacBook Pro. So I assume there is something I haven't set up property on my new desktop or that the new operating system in my Mac is interfering. What am I doing wrong? What do I need to change to get the M9 and the new Mac to communicate? I have searched all M9 and Mac forums for an answer. I have tried finding setting choices under Aperture that would help, all to not avail. I imagine it is something very simple, but it has eluded me. Suggestions? Advertisement Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 Hi wellsdc, Take a look here Missing EXIF data in Apple Aperture on New Mac. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
thighslapper Posted April 22, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2012 I assume you have gone into the drop down menu in Metadata and tried some of the other options ......one is labelled exif data...... If this doesnt work go into Edit at the bottom and create a new Metadata set (I have one called..... Leica Metadata )....... and check all the boxes on the things you want. Save it and see if that works. If you have already done this..... then I haven't a clue
wellsdc Posted April 22, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted April 22, 2012 Thanks Thighslapper. I went into "edit EXIF" data and confirmed that all the desired data points are checked. They still don't appear. I am stumped.
thighslapper Posted April 23, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 23, 2012 Where dont they appear ?...... on the Metadata panel on the left ....... or under the images (there is a setting for that as well). If there is not metadata at all anywhere whatever view you us then I am also a bit perplexed..... I will do some rummaging this afternoon in aperture...... I am sure you are right ..... in some obscure corner there will be a tick box thats been helpfully 'de-selected'....... The only other suggestion is a re-install of aperture and re-import all the images ...... I upgraded everything to the same state as you and there was no problem..... thighslapper Posted April 23, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 23, 2012 Have you tried 'update from master' in the metadata drop-down menu in the top menu-bar ?? If the metadata appears it may be worth trying that as a batch process on all the images... Possibly aperture has failed to recognise them as 'masters' when you updated. If any new images are still metadata free them I am at a loss..... Thats my lot. No other ideas at all..... best of luck
wellsdc Posted April 26, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted April 26, 2012 Thanks for the suggestion. The Update from Master seems to work with my existing photos! That's good news, of course. I'll try batch processing for others. I haven't researched what that command even means or does. When I have a moment, I'll see if it has any effect on new photos. Should it?
