Greetings -

I am looking to add to my "stable" of Leica cameras - I own an M7, and on the digital side, a tiny C-Lux 1, which I am extremely impressed with for what it is. I am now considering a V-Lux 1, and have not read too much about it since it has been released. I know it is the cousin of the Panasonic FZ-50, and that there are subtle differences between the two. From what I have seen, the images out of the FZ-50 have seemed flat at times - the few images from the V-Lux 1 that I have seen have appeared to have more depth to them- so I am wondering what you V-Lux 1 owners think - are you happy or not, and why? I am contemplating using the V-Lux for vacations and trips when I am away from a city environment - also, any inkling how long it will be until we see a V-Lux 2?

Thanks for all your good advice -

Vic

Vic,

I'm wondering whether you have seen comparisons online that can be used validly as a comparison. I saw a few on some site and the Panasonics seemed brighter and sharper. I was somewhat surprised, although maybe more aggressive in-camera processing and noise reduction explains it. Bottom line, I would like to see more to see if that's correct and consistent.

Honestly as a FZ30 owner and having seen pictures from her Leica sister, I would not pay the difference for the same results. Unless the SD card that comes with the Leica version and a longer garanty interest you.

Panasonics are great cameras.

A few weeks ago the V-Lux was reviewed in the magazine 'Amateur Photographer'. They compared some shots of the V-Lux with the FZ-50. The colours seem to be less saturated with the V-Lux. The full review can be downloaded for 3 £.

The LEICA V-LUX 1 has a different software. Leica has put its long experience with film cameras in the development of the software. The pictures are more natural. Also the noise reduction is better than the FZ50. Wheras the pictures made with the FZ50 will have noise at ISO 800, pictures taken with the V-LUX are noise free.

Also the test results of the V-LUX in photo magazins are better.

Here a picture made by V-LUX with 800 ISO:
