I'm a new owner of an X1, working my way up the learning curve. I also own Nikon gear and speedlights. I am wondering if I can use a Nikon speedlight on the X1 and if so, what functionality will be available. Will it work in a " TTL" mode , automatic or just manual?

Thanks

drbrog, Welcome to the forum!

I see reason why not. The Nikon compatible synch cord is widely recommended for Leica digital cameras. I use one on my Digilux 2 and X1, but only rarely. I much prefer the atmosphere of available light, particularly indoors.

I think you can use the Nikon Flash as slave flash activated by the x1 flash. I tried it with the SB26 but I think more recent flash can be used in this way. Personally I prefer the small Metz 28 CS2 (because of the side) but the way to use is the same. Set the x1 flash compensation @ -2 or -3 and bounce the Nikon flash on the ceiling or on a wall behind you.

Result should be more pleasant than just using the straight flash. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the wishes and suggestions. I'll give it a try and see what happens!

I also prefer available light but, as you know, that's not always available in sufficient amounts!
