How do you cary around your rangefinder?

When I started with a rangefinder (non- Leica) in 2006 I got a "Billingham for Leica" bag. I still use it for the M8 with one or two more lenses and the SF 24D, extra battery, cable release and other small things. My M8 itself is in a Leica protector half case.

With the factory strap attached (leave the strap a bit long), simple carry the camera, classic style, over the left shoulder. Then, over the camera, wear a jacket long enough to barely cover the camera while it hangs from your side, protected from rain, protected from view. With the jacket not zipped, the camera is always ready to shoot. Simply reach for it with right hand. After the shot, it falls back into hiding. This method is very fast and discreet, especially for a one-lens shooter, and requires that no bags be opened.

 

I do this often, if it's not too warm, although I prefer mine over the right shoulder. If I know I'm likely to need different FOVs, I may carry 2 identical cameras with lenses mounted, one over each shoulder. The jacket adds support and prevents any fear of slippage. Each is ready to go without hesitation. This is one of great benefits of the small M system.
