sohcsleeper Posted March 27, 2012 Share #1  Posted March 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration)  I had purchased my X1 used and it already came with the Leica 36mm Brightview OVF, Kiwiphoto Adapter, B+W Kassman Circular Polarizer and the Artisan & Artist half case.  Things I've added are Marumi +3 Achromat Close-up lens, Generic Thumbs up grip, Olympus VF-1 OVF (34mm), Nicna King Kong II Glass (9-Layer) Screen Protector (rainbow imaging)   Purpose of this post: 1. Show off my X1 (Artisan & Artist Half case and Nicna screen protector) 2. Generic Thumbs-up grip 3. Show the Marumi Lens 4. Optical Viewfinder: Leica 36mm vs Olympus 34mm  Artisan & Artist leather half-case for Leica X1 with built in grip and Nicna King Kong II ($10 amazon. I originally had the Giottos, but it fell off and would not restick. The Nicna is from Rainbow Imaging and cost less than half the price of the Giottos for relatively the same amount of protection. Advertisement Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Hi sohcsleeper, Take a look here My X1 Accessorized (Artisan&Artist,"Thumbs-up",Marumi +3 Lens,OVF)) Lots of images. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sohcsleeper Posted March 27, 2012 Author Share #2 Â Posted March 27, 2012 Â Generic "Thumbs-up" grip ($50 ebay): HUGE difference in handling. I just couldn't imaging paying ~$150usd for the real name brand product and really did not need the OVF hot-shoe either. My thinking was that if I am using the OVF then, camera to eye and head will stabilize the shot, however when shooting with the EVF the thumbs up becomes very handy, especially when shooting vertical. Feels more natural to have hand in a "C" Â continued below

sohcsleeper Posted March 27, 2012 Author Share #4  Posted March 27, 2012  49mm Marumi +3 Achromat close-up lens ($50 amazon) I really love taking close-up detail shots (not MACRO) but you know close-up. One of the X1 weaker points to me was the inability to get closer than 30cm. With this attached to the Kiwiphoto adapter the minimum focus distance is reduced by HALF. 15cm or 6" for us yankees. This makes a HUGE difference in not only capturing details, but also provides more bokehlicious shots. IMO this screw on lens is a must have for the X1.  100% image no crop w/ Marumi lens

marknorton Posted March 27, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted March 27, 2012 I think obsessional is the word... Â Still, better to end with a picture of someone picking their feet rather than their nose, though it's a close run thing.
chaimemet Posted March 28, 2012 Share #16 Â Posted March 28, 2012 I just purchased a new /not registered yet X1 last week. It came with a hand grip, self opening lens cover, and viewfinder. I had just previously replaced Digilux 3 with the 5 and mated it with the A&A case. Because of the hand grip the X1 A&A does not fit. I bought the Leica EVR case basically for the half case protection. On my first outing with the full case I just removed the top side and had my daughter carry it in a plastic bag, not very practical. I also got the thumb grip. I think its overkill. Probably works better w/o the case, just puts your thumb just that far away from using the thumb grip. Or w/o the hand grip and Leica half bottom and then the A&A like your setup is best. The Kiwi tube came yesterday with shade and B&W UV. Â Most are of the opinion that glass on glass a mistake. Anyway I have a tube w/ filter w/o lens cover. Is one available? Â Am I obsessed? Maybe so. Â I am looking for a fast action day bag for just the X1, an extra battery, the one I used only lasted for 110 shots, and extra media. Any ideas? I saw Tenba makes a Tenba Discovery Top load. Â For the DL5 I bought an A&A 7000 case. Â Oh by the way previous owner had an alligator leather case made for the X1, looking to unload. Â Is the close-up so essential? Â Why the Olympus view finder? Â What are the settings for those fabulous B&Ws posted?

sohcsleeper Posted March 28, 2012 Author Share #18 Â Posted March 28, 2012 Â Is the close-up so essential? Â Why the Olympus view finder? Â What are the settings for those fabulous B&Ws posted? Â The close-up is dependent on what you like to shoot. Personally I like taking pictures of small details that are usually over looked, however at the 30cm factory distance I would have to crop to achieve my desired composition. Also I enjoy the bokeh. Â The olympus was one I had from my olympus and since the Leica OVF is around $300-$350 I thought other X1 owners might like to see a cheaper alternative $50. The view is a bit wider, but definitely useable. Â The B&W settings are LR3 B&W creative- Look 3 Â Yea I'm a bit OCD, but I'd rather be thorough than half-assed. Just seems that not a lot of people like to share and when searching for information on the X1 it was difficult finding an active forum with good information. Some where down the line someone will appreciate all the pictures of the X1 accessories in all the different angles and views, that way they can make a good decision before buying. Â Thanks for looking!
budhudson Posted March 28, 2012 Share #19  Posted March 28, 2012 Phew  Great shots of the different accessories and options for the X1  Nice to see the 'macro' option at a more realistic 'macro distance' (though still not ideal)  Makes my simple selection of Leica ever ready case, Leica hand grip, Leica EVF, Leica wrist strap, Leica system case and Leica spare battery look a bit pathetic  Must try harder. Must try harder. Must ..................
Ecaton Posted March 28, 2012 Share #20 Â Posted March 28, 2012 I prefer mine pure, just the way it left the manufacturing line and was released by Leica's QC. No crutches or band-aids.
