soulcies Posted March 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, I was wondering if I would be able to upgrade to Lightroom 4 from the Lightroom 3 package that was included with the X1. I read the benefits manual that came with the X1 and the product serial number (X1) and the individual "TAN number" assigned to the product were the two pieces of information required to download Lightroom 3. Will upgrading to Lightroom 4 require a different serial number? Or is the "TAN number" all that is required for the upgrade? Has anyone made the upgrade yet? Any information you can provide is appreciated as it would save me about $80 getting the brand new Lightroom 4 software vs. the Lightroom 4 upgrade software. wda Posted March 22, 2012 Share #2 Posted March 22, 2012 If you used your TAN number to obtain LR3, you will need to upgrade to LR4 at your expense. The cost is extremely modest and worthwhile.
andybarton Posted March 22, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 22, 2012 Leica will provide you with the current version, when you first register and download. If you choose to upgrade, that's your decision, but at your own cost.
dave.gt Posted March 22, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 22, 2012 In general, what improvements are there in LR4 that make it worth the modest ($79USD) upgrade cost?

Jeff S Posted March 22, 2012 Share #7 Posted March 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The good news: I finally bought the upgrade yesterday. The bad news: the download wouldn't install without my having to update my older version Mac operating system. I knew I'd be forced to do this one day. Lion, here I come. And I hope without problem, although this suggests I might have a couple of problem applications in the conversion process. Sometimes I hate computers. Dougg Posted March 22, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 22, 2012 Jeff, good luck with Lion; I'm not quite ready to make that move yet. Keeping an eye on this evolving compatibility chart: App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS LR4 works fine on Snow Leopard... soulcies Posted March 22, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted March 22, 2012 I currently have Lightroom 3 (version 3.6) which I got free with the Leica X1. Are any serial numbers required when installing the Lightroom 4 Upgrade software? The only unique number I used when I downloaded the free version of Lightroom 3 from Leica was the "TAN number", but I'm not sure if that's a Leica number or an Adobe number. So my question is: do I need to buy a completely new Lightroom 4 software at $149 or can I just buy the Lightroom 4 upgrade software at $79 which may or may not require a serial number? andybarton Posted March 22, 2012 Share #10 Posted March 22, 2012 Just buy the upgrade. You have a fully licenced copy of LR, through Leica, do the upgrade installer will use the SN that you already have.
