So Confused as to which lens

This is what I tried and found very useful.

  1. Get the camera first.
  2. Buy a used lens. A CV 35 or 50 would be a good starting point. You can usually find good mint condition lenses cheap. In my case I started with a CV 40mm as I had it with me. But a CV 35mm or 50mm would work well.
  3. Join a local Leica user community and get to meet other Leica users. This is the best way to learn from their experiences and try different lenses.
  4. Determine the best lens to start with. In my case it was a 35mm Summicron.
  5. Next get to know a good dealer through your contact of friends. Someone knowledgeable, willing to let you try lenses in the shop and who can give a reasonable discount. I preferred to buy my first lens new as I plan to keep it for the long haul.
  6. Buy and have fun.

Get a 35 or a 50 (if it is the M9) or use your father's lenses. Rethink: delete 'or' from this use your father's lenses

Any Leica lens is good, some are better than others but in all reality the difference between them is marginal (although artistically interesting), how to decide between 99.9 and 100%?? I would not get anything new with such excellent optics at hand.

For me a FF camera starts living at 35mm, but that is a personal choice.

If I have to give them all back at heaven's gate the 35/2.8 summaron would be last they could extract from my hands, and that is a 1961 lens. Things have got better since then, but still.

Edit: Just read what you got, enjoy, you will not be sorry.
