Auctiva Image Hosting Do you all use your Leica leather cases or are they just too bulky for ya? I was just wandering . I've been making my own neoprene cases lately.. I like to keep the leather one in new condition and it's a little too bulky for my 5 million dollar bag.

Heck, I don't make my neoprene pouches I buy Zing ones for $8-12 depending on size. But, yes they are great, save space and weigh next to nothing. tobey bilek Posted March 17, 2012 Share #3  Posted March 17, 2012 That case is one that came from the cheap accessory store in NY City,1960`s, forget the name. They sold stuff like cheap flashes, $59 400 mm tele T mounts lenses, It came with my 100 mm Portragon soft focus lens, a crappy soft focus single element.  Leather harbors moisture and other crud,so Ok for short storage, not long term.  I make cases from worn sweat pants, all you sew up is a bag with a flap. Soft, cushioned, protects from other items , protects from finish wear from putting things in and out of hard fabric inserts, basically perfect.  Nikon makes nice swede ones that come with each new lens. Zeiss makes nice light blue ones that look similar, B&H and they are cheap.  Problem with Zeiss and Nikon is a hard bottom that keeps them from conforming to a smaller RF lens. But they work nicely as intended.
darylgo Posted March 17, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted March 17, 2012 I have heard that leather is a possible source of fungus growth that could eventually land in cameras and lenses. I have some older Leica that I previously kept in their leather cases but have recently moved to other containers/cases. Maybe someone with more information can weigh in here. New leather cases are nice but the only one I use is the Leica half case, otherwise it is neoprene cases for lenses and those flat wraps for the body when it is traveling in the car. RockyIII Posted March 18, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted March 18, 2012 I like the Billingham lens pouches. They are nylon with a leather base. Â Rocky
Messsucherkamera Posted March 19, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted March 19, 2012 I use zing neoprene pouches - they offer good protection and are well priced. Â As for the soft leather zip cases that come with M lenses, I would think that they are intended to be used and are functional or else Leica would not have made them the way they are made. The lenses may sit in the leather cases for months between being completed at Solms and being purchased or opened at a Leica dealer. No doubt our friends in Solms have taken that into account. Â I would not hesitate to use the leather zip cases from Leica in any environment that was not tropical or subtropical or overly humid. The combination of humidity and leather would be my only worry.
