Ben Embed Fast Load Data - Embeds what is essentially a cache of the information that LR needs to display an image into the DNG in a form that can be processed very quickly. Pros - faster image load time. Cons - your DNG might no longer be readable by anything other than LR4, as this is DNG 1.4 technology that no other software yet understands. Or might ever understand Embed Original Raw File - embeds the original raw file verbatim in the DNG. Pros - you can get the original raw file back, but still have the advantages of the DNG format. Cons - file size!!!! Sandy
roguewave Posted March 12, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted March 12, 2012 Sandy, thanks for making this explicit. I wish Adobe did. William, it's in the "preferences" section of LR4. Hope all is good. Ben
hermanp Posted March 13, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 13, 2012 Cons - your DNG might no longer be readable by anything other than LR4, as this is DNG 1.4 technology that no other software yet understands. Essentially this locks you in into Adobe products. This locking-in is not unique to LR 4, the same happens in LR 3.x if you embed the LR generated preview in the DNG. In my experience at least one other raw converter is unable to open and process files that were processed by LR this way. My lesson learned: don't ever allow software to write to my image files. Just as I did never write anything on my analog negatives or slides
