ronaldh Posted March 9, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 9, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I shoot uncompressed DNGs on my M9 and process them in LR. I bought a new PC and Eizo CG241W monitor a couple of weeks ago - retaining the Epson R2880, which had always given excellent results and successfully calibrated the monitor with a Spyder. I continue to use Epson paper and inks and, as always, set colour management to "off" on the printer, leaving LR to deal with that aspect on the Adobe standard profile in the Develop module, as I had done with my previous setup. During the first week with the new setup I was getting a really strong magenta cast on all prints (which had looked fine on the monitor) and it made no difference whether I set the rendering to relative or to perceptual. Suddenly this stopped happening and I assumed that initially I must have incorrectly set the printer/profile in the LR Print module. However, a week later the colour cast is back. (I have just upgraded from LR3 to LR4 but that does not affect this particular issue). I really cannot tell where the presumed conflict arises. Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong? Thanks Ronnie

sanyasi Posted March 9, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 9, 2012 I had exactly this problem two weeks ago. I did the nozzle check and standard cleaning. Still had the problem. I then did a power clean and problem was corrected. A power clean does use a lot of ink, but it can save a lot of aggravation and wasted ink trying to fix the problem through other means. Good luck Jack Siegel

ronaldh Posted March 9, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted March 9, 2012 Steve, Jack and Tyler Thank you. That was one of the first things I tried, but I'll give it another go. Strange though, that after several years using this printer the problem occurred for the first time when I replaced the other components in my system. ronaldh Posted March 10, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted March 10, 2012 Following these suggestions I ran another auto nozzle check and cleaning utility on the Epson, but there was a regular pattern on the test sheet. The issue is something else - to do with the interraction between LR and the printer: 1. In the LR print module I set the colour management to SPR2880 Premium Glossy. (As mentioned above I generally set the intent to Perceptual though I have the same issue if I select Relative). 2. Next, on the Page Set Up tab I set the printer properties as described in my original post, ie no colour management by the printer, highest quality, layout etc. 3 I then go into the printer settings on the pc to make sure they tally with the above. 4. I then hit the print or print one button. After printing, if I go back to check the Page Set up tab - Printer Properties I find that the printer properties have defaulted to colour management by Epson Standard, automatic mode and speed instead of high quality - settings which I have never intentionally used. It seems that this is happening when I print and is the problem - but what causes the change and how can I prevent it happening?
ronaldh Posted March 10, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted March 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Epson's helpline have answered my question. Stage 3 was unnecessary and set up a conflict albeit that the settings were the same. Too anxious to play with the new pc I suppose!
