Recently I have been adding camera patent data on our LeicaWiki (see Current designers of Leica products: and Original designers of Leica products: )

In doing that exercise, what stood out for me, was the unsung story of Ludwig Leitz, son of Ernst Leitz II. We've all heard of Ernst Leitz, Oskar Barnack, Max Berek and Walter Mandler, but their output, at least when measured by patents issued, do not compare with Ludwig - over 30 photographic patents - over 60 if you count micro, geo and spotting scopes.

Not only was he prolific, he almost always shared the credit. Even the first production Leica reflex camera was assigned to Paul Naumann, who only is listed on 3 other photographic Leitz patents.

(There are a few others on the Original Designer's page - in red - who have been mentioned in some of the Leitz /Leica literature who I cannot find listed on any patents. If anyone can identify their contribution that would be most welcome - otherwise I'll remove them from the list.)
