I tested my recently acquired 90mm Elmarit M and found that it front focused appx 30mm. It was not coded either. Thinking that I might save a few bucks, I emailed one of the recommended independednt technicians for details - and received no reply.

So I sent the lens off to Leica in NJ on February 22. The following Monday (27th) I spoke to a lovely woman who confirmed receipt of the lens. And she said it would likley take 2-3 weeks for the techs to get to it.

The lens arrived in the mail today, less than two weeks from the day I sent it. Most important, the lens looks great. It got coded and adjusted. Moreover, Leica did a splendid job cleaning it. I see a lot less crud when I eyeball it wide open. What I thought was inside junk must have been on the exterior surfaces.

All for $230. Not cheap. But worth it, especially for the piece of mind that the lens is back to factory specs. Downside is I can not blame the lens anymore.
