LR4

The people who seem to have it worst is us Lion users. None of the prescribed remedies seem to work.

While there may be a fix quickly, it might not reach us for some time, as software updates has to go through Adobes internal processes. At least my LR3 still works.

I am at work now but I think that there is a work around, but it is slow. You could process the file in LR4 then export it as TIFF import this to LR3 and then start SEP or other program from there and then reimport the B/W TIFF in LR4. Cumbersome, but I will test tonight.

That will work, Painful, but it will work. I use that method when I want to use the Adobe RAW converter, but want to process it in C1.

Me too :)

It is not available yet, but Leicq has posted this on the Leica LR download site:

Important information about Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 4:

Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 4 will soon be available for downloading. In the meantime, you can download the 30-day trial version with complete functionality from the Adobe website. Please note the system requirements.

We thank you for your understanding and wish you continued enjoyment of your Leica products.

Yes it works! Not too bad. I have a rather new iMac 27 with 8 Gb memory so I can run LR3 and LR4 at the same time without problems.

I leave it for the moment, there are others with the same problem so I guess that we will have a fix coming.

There may be a misapprehension that the update process modifies the code in your older installed copy of the program. Not true; the update installs a full completely fresh copy of the program with only reference to the old one to verify ownership.

In this instance, it completely replaced my 4 beta and looked up my oldest registered original, the version 2.7, to verify a valid serial number to allow the upgrade installation.

The idea came from the installer, it says it modifies the previous code. I was pretty sure it would not, but just to be sure I trashed the Beta. In my case it brought up the 3.6 serial number.

hello, is it normal that it takes days when i buy LR4 online to get my serialnumber? strange.

and i wonder why they made the photobook-tool so little individualizeable. us-standards only etc etc. should be easy to apply the simplest tools like in all sw from books sellers...

Before you run out and spend the money, the "corrections" are also available in the release candidate of the new camera raw which works in perfectly FINE in Photoshop CS5 and LR3.

Download Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 Release Candidate - Adobe Labs

I use Adobe LR3 lens corrections on some of my Nikon lenses, the 17-35 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 VR (version one) benefit from it the most, mostly correcting barrel distortion in the wider zoom and vignetting in the tele zoom. I have stopped using corrections on the Nikon primes, in my case, 55 1.2, 55 2.8 micro, 85 1.4, 105 2 defocus, and 300 2.8 mostly because I see no difference or improvement in what the image looks like. I do not use it on the 28-70 2.8 zoom, one, because it's not listed, and two, because it doesn't do anything.

I would contend the image quality of almost ALL of these M lenses listed are not going to benefit greatly or AT ALL from software "correction". When I apply the Adobe 50 Summicron "correction" to images I have taken with a 50 Summicron, it does absoutely nothing, mostly because it didn't need to be corrected in the first place. The signature of the Leica lens is what I'm looking for, not Adobe's corrected version.

Just my opinion.

Jay

Is there any specification that these profiles should be applied WITH or WITHOUT in-body lens profile? I guess the amount of vignetting/distortion to be corrected is different. Many thanks!

Just for grins and giggles, I downloaded a copy of Photoshop CS5.1 Trial on my MacBook Pro - MacOS X 10.7.3. It fixed the LR4 Plug-in problem... Hmmm A $700 fix for a $79 problem... Thats Adobe for you.

Interesting. Here in the US I received 2 emails immediately from Adobe (one containing the serial #). Did you check your junk folder?

I received two emails, one immediately saying it was processing, and late the next day one with the serial #. I guess it depends on how you pay; CC or PayPal.

Sorry to hijack a thread... just didn't want to start another one with LR4 in the subject line. But can anyone offer feedback on the pro's and cons between LR4 and CO6 Pro?

I'm a Capture One user, and am comfortable with it, but have a code for a free LR4 download.

I use different Nikon D3 and D2x bodies in my workflow, and I'm pretty sure that the correction profiles do not take into consideration the camera body or the combination of lens and body, just the lens. I say that because applied corrections look very similar, even though the D3 has a full frame sensor and the D2x is a cropped frame.

However, I could be completely wrong. This Adobe LINK is vague.

Yes installing CS5 solves the problem. I saw some posts at the Adobe forum and they have now isolated the problem and a simple fix should be coming soon.

When LR4 starts it looks after other programs and sets some "flags" like CS5 installed and this activates the command "edit in" but when CS5 is not there this flag is not set. In windows there is a fix that includes editing the registry. I have not seen any fixes for OSX yet. But Adobe should be able to solve this early next week.

  • 2 weeks later...

For me Lightroom 4 is still lacking.

It really needs a straight RGB, fully editable curve panel. It's in Photoshop I don't understand why the most usable, succinct and capable editing tool available is being with held from it. I can do everything I need, quickly and directly from the one panel of curves.

For me Lightroom still only exists as a catalogue and editing interface where you can make some adjustments too. Capture One is what I will continue to use as my Raw Developer.
