Minilux: RECENT E02 repair

Hi all,

 

Looking at buying a Minilux, but concerned about the E02. I imagine not every one gets the problem, but I have a chance to get one and I am wondering about being able to repair the shutter if it does go.

Has anyone had any recent repairs done in North America?

 

I contacted Leica tech at their NJ headquarters and got a call back (I'm in British Columbia, Canada) about an hour later and was told by a very nice lady that Leica no longer services the Minilux, not even at the factory in Germany, and there are no more parts... I looked around the Internet and found this photo thread on exactly how to repair the problem:

Which looks promising (except I don't read Korean), and I forwarded it to my local uber camera repair shop - Camtex - here in Vancouver. I await a response from them to see if it's a repair they can do.

 

So, again, anyone using a Minilux get the E02 repair done in the States or Canada lately?

Sorry, can't help with your specific query. Minilux is now over 10 years old. EO2 does happen. But I have to say that if you want a film Leica then a non-electronic one, specifically an M series, will be serviceable for eons, and will save you money in the long run. If the Minilux is not selling for too much, it will produce good results -- as long as it keeps going. If you really don't want an M series, a cheapie mini 2 or 3 is also worth considering. These cameras, despite being plastic and simple, still have excellent optics.
