I(A) case restoration

I'm currently restoring the case which came with a 1928 Leica I(A), which I'm pretty sure is original. Having re-stitched virtually all the leather (Ouch, blood, etc.:o), it's time to give the interior some attention. There is no felt or any material at all as protective liner; just the bare leather. Could someone please tell me: 1- Is there any backing to the felt? 2- If so, what is that backing made of? 3- Is the lining felt, or some other material? 4- What colour is the lining? I know it would be virtually impossible to get an exact match nowadays; I just want to come close as possible to the original. Regards and thanks, David

I love the pre war cases which seem to me to be made of more supple leather than the post war ones. What case are we talking about here? There were several for the 1A which include the ubiquitous ever ready case. The most popular seems to have been the ETRIN whch held the camera with a separate clip for the viewfinder and a compartment for two leica film spools. I also have an ETWOO which is slightly larger and holds an additional lens (if anyone has the filter holder for one of these I would like to see a picture as mine is missing). In the ERC only the nose is lined with felt and the others are unlined.

Thank you SideB, thank you JC. It is the ever ready case and yes SideB, the leather quality is superb and soft. Due to the ease of distortion, possibly more might have survived if the leather had been firmer. It seems as though the restoration may be easier than I thought if only the nose is lined. Can you tell me what colour the felt should be? Rgds., David

Thank you JC, If I see a deep, rich red, then our monitors give similar color. You have also shown how far the felt extends, which is further than I thought. Much appreciated. Kind Regards, David

Exactly about the color,

we can see also that the camera lens do not used any cover so the external ring and the diaphragm ring have worn the felt.
