e120711 Posted February 26, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted February 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello fellow leica users, I am not a reach guy. With fuji pro x1 introduction, the leica x1 prices went down. Now you can buy in nice condition for around 1200-1400 USD. In my humble opinion it is a great price for a apc sensor camera with 24mm elmarit lens. On other hand, there is a rumors of x2, which is expected to be introduced in spetember of 2012, and reach the market in 3-4 months. It expected to be far more superior than x1. So in your opinion should I buy now used or save some money and buy brand new x2 in december 2012?

andybarton Posted February 26, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted February 26, 2012 I bought one a brand new couple of weeks ago. Im not worried about what rumourmongers tell me might happen, to be honest. Â As we get closer to Photokina, some detail may emerge, but everything you hear or read now is pure conjecture.

I am looking hard at an X1 but the decision is being delayed due to raising funds to pay for it, NOT because there will be another one with more features a year from now! Â Don't waste your opportunities, there will always be a new camera to buy but you cannot capture moments that have been lost.
nickma Posted February 26, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted February 26, 2012 I bought one a brand new couple of weeks ago. Â So Andy, did you get an exchange from the shop on the one that was behaving badly?
Paul J Posted February 26, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted February 26, 2012 The X1 is a brilliant camera. I wouldn't want to be without it. Why wait when you can have the X1 now?
bill Posted February 26, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted February 26, 2012 X2 was rubbish. A much weaker story, and not enough use made of Halle Berry. Â Oh, and all waiting gets you is older. Â Regards, Â Bill
Ecaton Posted February 26, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted February 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica's September 2012 announcements won't be available until Spring 2013, provided you are among the first on a waiting list or have excellent connections to Leica dealers. For the "masses" availability won't be until Fall 2013. So if you like the X1, buy it now and use the heck out of it. I had an X1 from May 2010 until Nov 2011 and recently realized that its files occupy much more space on my drive than any other digital camera's. So maybe selling it was a mistake. andybarton Posted February 26, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted February 26, 2012 So Andy, did you get an exchange from the shop on the one that was behaving badly? Â I have kept it. It's temperamental, but it will do for now.
jippiejee Posted February 26, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted February 26, 2012 I own a lot of cameras and love them all for what they're good at. But when I have to pack my backpack for a short trip, it's always the X1 that goes in there. It's just that good, and it being so light and compact a pleasant bonus. I'd not wait till 2013 to get something similar. Go and enjoy one now. You can always sell it by the time you think the X2 offers more.

As noted by others before me-a September announcement is likely to mean a March/April/May delivery. My x1 was purchased the following June when they they. Became widely available.  Why wait a year to take photos?  Buy the x1 now- it may take you 6-12 months to fully 'grok' the camera. If there is an x2 it is likely to be based on the x1 so the x2 learning curve won't be as great.  Buy it now and use it now .
e120711 Posted February 26, 2012 Author Share #12 Â Posted February 26, 2012 THANK YOU ALL FOR SUCH INSIGHTFUL COMMENTS! What a set of wise and knowledgeable people. I looked back, and you absolutely right with September announcement it takes not three months, but rather a 6-8 months to become a widely available. So it will be not at least a year for next powerful Leica compact will be available. Again thank you for your wisdom.

Cherylmeek Posted February 27, 2012 Share #15 Â Posted February 27, 2012 I would agree, don't wait as the rumours are few and September is ages away. Â I purchased 3 weeks ago and I can't recommend the camera enough. I love it to bits, so impressed. I have had many camera's and this just blew me away.
