jrc Posted February 27, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 27, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I hadn't made up my mind about buying a lens with the discount letter, but it has occurred to me that if the Noctilux offer is still good, the price of $2735 US might be an entreprenurial opportunity, so to speak... Advertisement Posted February 27, 2007 Posted February 27, 2007 Hi jrc, Take a look here Hmmm...Leica lens letter. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
carstenw Posted February 27, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 27, 2007 Sure, this has occurred to me too, but then there just might be a short-term glut resulting from this. The market for such lenses, especially at these prices, isn't very large, and recent second-hand prices have been below that price, so it might not pay off. I will get a lens I want to keep, personally.
c6gowin Posted February 27, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 27, 2007 I had planned on gettin the WATE with my 30% discount, but now I am thinking about changing to the Noctilux. My rational is that I would love to have a Noctilux, but realistically I probably wouldn't pay full price for such a specialty lens. Then again, I am also considering a 28 Cron or 50 lux because they would get more use, but it would be easier to talk myself into paying full price for these lenses so what to do? I have also been watching used prices for several lenses and I am having a hard time finding any good deals.
LJL Posted February 27, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 27, 2007 Mark and Carsten, Same sort of considerations here. I finally decided on the Nocitlux for a couple of reasons. First, it is a lens that, for me, I will not stop owndering about it and thinking about how I would use it, so it seemed like an obvious way to use a nice discount. I probalby would not put out the full price for one right now, and there are not that many on the used market either. Â Secondly, as Mark points out, the other lenses in the kit are somewhat easier to get, both new and used and more affordable prices. The Nocti is more costly and harder to get, so this seems like a good opportunity. Â After sending off my order I did start to wonder if it would be honored or if the wait may be very long for a copy. Not going to worry about the wait, as I have the length covered now, and I can be patient for the goods. The bigger concern is if somehow Leica comes back with some revised princing or tries to balk at fullfillig the request. My gut tells me that they will not, and that of the total discount redemptions, only a small fraction are going to be Noctis anyway. Â If you really want to try this lens and have intentions of exploited it wonderful drawing and capabilities, this is a very good opportunity. And, if it is not to your liking, you will most likely be able to recover all of your cost plus a bit, so not really a problem there. On the other hand, if you really have a need for something else in your kit, be it filling a gap or replacing/upgrading a very often used lens, that would also be a very wise way to apply the discount. Â Just my thinking on some of this. Â LJ
marknorton Posted February 27, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 27, 2007 Seems clear to me that if a Nocti is ever going to be on your agenda, you should use your 30% to buy one. I doubt it's going to fall out of fashion, I seriously doubt it's going to be replaced and secondhand prices will reflect the increased new cost.
